I've had my ST1100 for over 6 years now and over 76k miles. It's a great, great, reliable bike.......but....I'm starting to lust after this bike among others. Here are the others:

Multistrada 1260 S
R1200/1250 RT
K1600GT
or since I can't get another ST, how about a VFR1200X?

Thoughts? Each manufacturer has a dealer or two within 30 miles of me. I'm just looking for a bit more excitement. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

The Multistrada would be the last option on that list for me. I lusted over that bike until I rode my friends. He has had two in the last 3 or 4 years. A 15 and a 17 I think. Both have had brake problems with low miles on them. He loves them. They don’t do it for me. But I’m not a Fan of Ducati.
Buy what you like and enjoy it.

So no Desmo Keith? Isn't Ducati owned by VW and they are coming out with a camper version next year?

Rider magazine has a cover article on the KTM 790. It seems like it has all the advantages of the 1190...but with a lot less weight. At 417 lbs, that would be sweet.

They were not looking at it solely for off-road, but considering it good enough to tour long distances on.

Never say never. I never thought I would own a BMW or a Triumph. I sure like my Tiger and my R1200RS. I’ll save the camper for you Coop.

Unless that excitement includes saying Yikes when it comes to pay the service bill, check out maintenance costs before jumping. I read somewhere recently that a Ducati will cost in the region of $1500.00 for two years servicing. Now that is exciting.

Understood. That's my hang-up with the Ducati as well. With the RT1200, at least (it appears) I can do the valve checks/adjustments myself. I would def be trying to do any many scheduled services as I can to save $. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about all of the costs surrounding those bikes that don't effect me with the ST1100.

If cost of main. and purchase are your prime considerations then simply by a Honda Metropolitan and be done with it.
You only live once-YOLO, so buy what strikes your fancy and ride it like you stole it.

I’ve never ridden a GT but I test rode a 1290 R and it was a wonderful bike. I was about to buy until I rode a Tuono. Sounds like you’ll be doing some touring so the KTM might be the best choice. Not cheap but life’s too short for bad motorcycles.

You can get a new ST1300! There is one on the showroom floor here in town, 2102 with 0 miles and full warranty. I was quoted $12,000. But I was thinking about the BMW's before I bought my 2010 ST.

Welcome aged one, or techy one, or both. Good find on the 13, someone was asking about a new one recently. I don't know how 12K stacks up against other bikes over there but it would be about half the price of a new RT in the UK :ukflag1:.

If you purchase a GS911 and the factory manual on CD, you can do the R12RT service yourself. Valve service is easy. Not so with the K1600. Between the two, I think the R-RT is the better bike. Can't help you with ducks and katooms - I resist them because I want to keep both my driver's license and my life a bit longer.

I guess I should explain what I mean. The ST1300 was developed around 2001-2002. You guys would know better. So a 7yo leftover bike, although considered "new" with 0 miles, is really an 17-18yo bike and not really what I was looking for. No offense to my ST1300 riding brothers and sisters. I'm finally at a stage in my life where I would like to try a current bike. If Honda came out with the newly re-designed for '18, '19, 0r '20 ST1350 or what have you, it would be on the short list.

The big win for me would be something with the weight, handling, features, and ergonomics of a BMW R1250RT but with the smoothness, durability, reliability and purchase price of an ST.

I don't want much.
