Yep....cocaine for the ears. Would probably lose my driver's license quickly if I had that bike -- it's hard enough to restrain myself on the ST1300 with it's exhaust note that's a cross between the Jetsonmobile and an irrigation pump. (LOL)

Terry

Yep, and you know what they say... Man has two heads, but only enough blood supply to operate one at a time. I concur with DixieFlyer!

Sounds nice, but must have had a microphones in use at the end of each muffler. Othe K16 videos are more typical in that there's a lot of wind noise and less crackle from the exhaust tip.

Awesome sound! If the bike wasn't so darn HUGE I would look at them more closely as a future ST replacement. Great setup, awesome sound, but they are yachts. Yes, even after seeing them in person. I can see it being a great 2-up bike, like the Wing. Beautiful bikes...just shrink them a bit!

So Joe, When you gonna take it out of Rain Mode and try Dynamic ;)

I usually ride with plugs in, but the K has got me pulling them out for some rides around town because it sounds so awesome.

I just now got the break-in oil change done and started letting the revs get over 5K, I just thought it was cool before :bow1:

The distance from the rider position to the dash is a lot longer, I agree, but I have mine parked right next to the ST, and there really is not that much difference in actual size overall and the K feels MUCH lighter when moving. Take the ST's moving weight loss miracle and multiply by about 5. I think the biggest thing is that you sit more "in" the K and more "on" the ST if that makes any sense.

I am still riding both back to back each week and still find both to be great rides, but for different reasons.

Chris

LOL......That's not my recording and I've never had mine in "RAIN" mode, even in the rain. Mine stays in "Dynamic" for the throttle-by-wire and "Normal" for the suspension.

I've had it to red-line many many times and love it. I can vouch that it will do 158 (allegedly on a race track) easily and feel as smooth as glass all the way there. From what I can tell from the video, it appears he gets it up to somewhere between 130 and 140 (gauging fromthe speedo needle position). I believe the K1600GT governed for the low 150's (have read the GTL is governed for way less, I believe due to the top box and aerodynamic anomolies caused by that) and eventually someone will create a device (like the power commander) to out do that, but why?!?! 158 is way too fast anyway.

I only sat on one at the 2011 BMWMOA International Rally and it was like looking out through the windshield of a 60's Buick!!!
Had no interest at all in a demo ride....
This really puzzles me. The weight of the K16 and ST13 are quite comparable. You won't believe how light it feels compared to the ST in the corners either.

That video was audible nirvana!

Aw shoot, now I understand. All this time I thought Booger was just glad to see me when he arrives on his K16. Now you're saying it is the K16 causing that "little" problem?

1+ on that. I think alot of guys are afraid they will like the Beemer. I really liked my ST but the K16 just out does it plain & simple. Try it you'll like it.:D

Before you start considering, do your homework. I believe over time the issues will be resolved; however, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. If I'd researched a bit more I would've read about what I am now experiencing. I would not have made the purchase. Now that I have, I will consider a later model, assuming the issues are ironed out. Between now and then, my hopes are that Honda comes out with the ST replacement and I'll go back to ホンダ

I have to tell you, I'm beginning to have a little remorse. I love the ride, the sound, the engine, and the way it handles. There's not much I don't like about it except, the cost of having to take it into the dealer to have that blasted service light turned off. Sure you can do your own maintenance, but since 2011 when BMW went to the latest version of CANBus, there are not readers available and one cannot reset it.

Second, mine is plagued with the "bad water pump" syndrome. Mine is currently back at the dealer for it's 5th water pump since April (stock pump plus 4 new ones).

Third, the switch clusters both right and left apparently fail when exposed to high heat. How do I know? I rode mine to work a few Saturdays ago early in the morning. Upon coming out at 4pm I attempted to start it, nothing.....kaput....the right cluster wouldn't work. The only ride I got that day was on the inside of the tow truck to the dealer. It has since been replace with a "superceded" part number, hopefully one that resolves the issue. Evidently this is common:

Some suggest cooling the switches with a bag of ice and it'll start after about 15 minutes. I thought I'd get those little umbrellas that come with those foo foo drinks and zip tie them to the switch clusters. The when hot, open the umbrellas to keep them cool. Sound ridiculous? I think failing clusters is more ridiculous.

Now I'm just waiting for the left cluster to fail.

Although tow service and trip interruption are covered by BMW warranty, I would rather enjoy my trip rather than worry about when and where it will quit on me.

I realize this is a relatively new design but I'm not sure Honda would've let any of their bikes go for 2 years without recalls due to failure of such significant components.

I really like this bike so much I'm going to stick with it a while more, but my patience is waning and my conscience like the little angel on my shoulder keeps asking me "do you want to sell this bike and pass the problems onto someone else"?

I'm considering the "lemon law" route but read and hear that even though it sounds good, the manufacturer still comes out ahead, other than a number added to their "lemon" count. If I do go that way I may trade up to the 2014 model. Time will tell. Our local dealer has been great, I can't blame them for a thing. They've bent over backwards to make sure I've been taken care of. I just wish BMW would start bending too to resolve these unsolved issues. New switch cluster have been redesigned, but are failing as well. No new water pump has been released yet (are they even working on one?).

I can understand why you are frustrated.

I have followed along as some K16 owners have had switches fail, or other issues. I sold my K16 while I went through my divorce, and bought a C14. Low and behold, I see C14 owners having problems also. Kipass failure, warped rotors, TPS failure, etc. That said, I cannot wait to own a K16 again.

I hope your dealer can somehow make this right for you.
