I bought a new 2012 ST1300 about 6 months ago and wanted the extra storage offered by a top case. I really like the looks of the top case made by Honda for the ST1300 but two things stopped me: it's available only from overseas vendors (mostly in the UK) and the price is very high ($800 including shipping, and that's without the LED light bar).
After looking at dozens of aftermarket models from Givi and others, I came across a top case made for the Honda STX1300 that is similar to the case made for the ST. The CTX uses a detuned version of our ST motor and drivetrain. It is not similar in appearance to the ST (it is a cruiser style) but the saddlebags and top case are similar in size and capacity.
The top case appears to be made by Givi for both bikes, and the 45L capacity makes them proportionally the same. It appears to me that Givi makes the Honda cases and used the same lower half for several Honda top cases (ST1300, CTX1300. N700, more). The colors are limited to black, dark red, or blue.
The top case for the CTX1300 is still offered new on ebay for $300 including a backrest, plus $100 for a mounting kit. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-BLACK-METALLIC-REAR-TRUNK-45L-2014-CTX1300-/271530599741?fits=Model:CTX1300&hash=item3f387c253d:g:CKQAAOSw7PBTqLAM&vxp=mtr)
I had to drill 2 new holes in the metal mounting plate, and 4 new threaded holes in the carrier on the ST. The finished installation looks great and is quite solid. If you can find it at a reasonable cost, the mount kit sold for the ST1300 works perfectly with this case with no modifications to the plate or carrier.
There is one drawback...The case is not sold with a lock and key set. For $20, Honda sells a tumbler set specific to this case that you configure for any key with a straight ridge on both edges. I could not configure the tumblers for the ignition key on the ST because it has cut edges, but it was quite easy for an older model Honda car key.
