After reading this thread, I decided try to fabricate a mount for my 2610 to the TT's mini-dash thingy. How difficult can it be ??
I didn't have any aluminum stock on hand, but I did have some metal plate from the aircraft industry .. like 2-3 mm-ish. It's some sort of steel, but REALLY hard. I couldn't cut it with a hack saw or jig saw, so I used my Sawsall with it clamped to a piece of wood. Very tough!
I cut out a piece 2.5" wide x 4.25" long. Rounded the sides with a small open shoe grinder and a file. Then clamped it in a vice at the 2" mark .... heated it with a plumber's torch and bent it over to about 75-80 degrees forming an open "L" so the GPS mount would mount on my Turbo Tom's mini shelf (which is 3" square and mounts on either the left or right hand side of the dash ... I have one on the right with my 8500 Escort mounted, so the GPS will mount on the left).
I drilled holes in the longer portion to match the plastic 2610 mount and tried it on the bike. It may interfere with the aftermarket windscreen at full down, but I'll see. EZ to remove with the hook and lock stuff.
I plan to paint it (maybe today), cut the screws to the correct size and Velcro the entire deal to the TT's stand. This way, I can disconnect the GPS and take it off the bike when I need it secured at stops ... and when I want to trade off with the Wing. Should work fine.
Once it's competed, I'll post photos (IF I can remember how), but it was pretty simple to do. Using 1/8" aluminum would make this project MUCH easier.
