Gang,

I have a Garmin 2610 that I want to mount in the center of my bars does anyone know where and what I need (part numbers and seller).

I have a heli riser that I was hoping to mount to. I only bought the unit from edgegps so not sure what else I need. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the link but could not see how the ball mounts to the heli riser I have. The riser I have doesn't have a tapped hole for the ball. Still looking for the correct setup if anyone knows please help thx

If you want to mount it in the middle of your riser (did that with my 2610 and it worked find), I'd check with the folks at Heli to see if they would just sell you the center piece by itself. My guess is they would for not much moola.

Absent that, just tap the one you've got.

Good luck.

John

I have the old type of Heli Bar plate and have my 2610 mounted in the middle of the bars. I used a Ram-Comp plate. You take out the alen head screws and they go through the holes in the plate. I needed to make the holes in the ram plate a little bigger to fit the alen head screws. I then used a ram short arm and then the Garmin mount. I replaced the Garmin mount with a toura tech mount as I wanted to be able to have it locked and take it out easy. I also use a locking knob on the short arm.

I picked the parts up from Cyclegadgets.com. You can also get them from the GPS stores that sell RAM parts.

Here is a photo.

How about MCL's clutch reservoir replacement plate with RAM mount ball? I think it would make the Garmin EZr to view than the "mid mount".

Seems like the mount in the middle of the bars would hinder one's view of the speedo and such. Plus, you will have to move your eyes down a great deal from the road to view the GPS .... unless you use audio only. I don't.

If you have it hooked up to the clutch deal, you will have ALL the gauges free for view and your eyes are higher on the horizontal. Especially to the left ... where the cagers are.

I'm still trying to figure out how to hook up my 2610 to Turbo Toms mini dash mount or VP Jeans GL1800 mid dash mount. We'll see how this turns out. I'm sure other's will have a better way of mounting.

You're absolutely correct. Having the gps center mounted looks really nice but it requires looking way down to view. I too would recommend mounting at either the clutch or brake reservoir.

Another +1 here. I had it like that on my ST and it was too distracting. When I got the Wing I mounted on the clutch side because it would allow me to easily hit a button or two to get directions or switch views.

One of the problems I had when the GPS was mounted on the Wing's left handle bar area was .... well, I wear progressive bi-focals. Having the GPS that close was a problem for me to quickly look at the screen, readjust my head to get the lenses in the the correct focal length to view the screen and then back on the road took to many actions.

On the WING, I finally got Cyclegadgets mount. Took some effort to mount, but it's mounted in the middle of the dash on the WING and above the gauges. Works really nice. Plus, it's EZ to dismount the hard wired GPS 2610 from the mount and toss in a bag/pocket, yada, yada. The mount is a bit high for me and I have tried to bend it down a bit. Afraid I will tear it a new one if I put too much pressure on it. Go to Jon's site and look for it. It could be adapted to the ST by some McGuvyer (?) dude. Is that really how one spells McGiver? What do I know. (just checked ... It's MacGyver .... go figure)

Also, VP Jean has various inexpensive mounts that may work on the ST, too. They are a GL1800 (and others) specific site, but think many of their mounts and other deals would work on the ST. Just an opinion.

Where can one get that reservoir replacement mount?

I might have a motorcycle cradle for the 2610 still, all you will need is the ram mount.

The mounts that I'm using are near the reservoir(s), but not on them. The grip clamps' stock bolts are replaced with longer bolts and spacers:

Here are some pictures of my Garmin 2720 (uses same mount as 2610) mounting system, using the Garmin cradle (I started with a MCL one I think it was, but the GPS plastic cover wouldn't work with it, so I changed to the Garmin--purchased direct from Garmin on line), RamMounts and the MCL center piece that John (Herlemann) gave me.

I've had it on for several months, through rain and shine and it's worked great. It's also very easy to pop the 2720 off to take inside or whatever.

Hope this helps.

Re: What do I need to mount 2610

I'd like to answer that question, but I'd get banned. LOL!!

After reading this thread, I decided try to fabricate a mount for my 2610 to the TT's mini-dash thingy. How difficult can it be ??

I didn't have any aluminum stock on hand, but I did have some metal plate from the aircraft industry .. like 2-3 mm-ish. It's some sort of steel, but REALLY hard. I couldn't cut it with a hack saw or jig saw, so I used my Sawsall with it clamped to a piece of wood. Very tough!

I cut out a piece 2.5" wide x 4.25" long. Rounded the sides with a small open shoe grinder and a file. Then clamped it in a vice at the 2" mark .... heated it with a plumber's torch and bent it over to about 75-80 degrees forming an open "L" so the GPS mount would mount on my Turbo Tom's mini shelf (which is 3" square and mounts on either the left or right hand side of the dash ... I have one on the right with my 8500 Escort mounted, so the GPS will mount on the left).

I drilled holes in the longer portion to match the plastic 2610 mount and tried it on the bike. It may interfere with the aftermarket windscreen at full down, but I'll see. EZ to remove with the hook and lock stuff.

I plan to paint it (maybe today), cut the screws to the correct size and Velcro the entire deal to the TT's stand. This way, I can disconnect the GPS and take it off the bike when I need it secured at stops ... and when I want to trade off with the Wing. Should work fine.

Once it's competed, I'll post photos (IF I can remember how), but it was pretty simple to do. Using 1/8" aluminum would make this project MUCH easier. :06biker:

Anybody know what sort of ball mount should be used to attach to an ST1300 with no riser plate? And how it is attached?

(looking for something cheaper than the $65 motorcycle larry offering)
