so as some of u might know i got my st from my dad, (supersabre) when i got the bike he told me that it had a slight coolant leak and after it getting worse now that i have the bike up here in Oregon i decided to dig in and see what i can find about where its leaking, so after pulling tank, air box and all plastics and radiator i was able to find a leak on 2 pipes one was a smaller pipe going from front of motor to the oil cooler and second was on the right side larger hose that goes from thermo housing to head,
so after replacing both pipes and refilling the system i ran the motor and didn't see any more leaks, put it all back together and got it ready for me to ride into work, stopped to get gas in as i was on empty and got going again, well when i got to work i noticed i had a dripping from under the bike, :22yikes:
i had to pull the gas out and this time i just took off the tank, air box, right side Tupperware just with pulling back the rubber i couldn't see any leaks, i found one clamp that was a little loose but didn't look like it was leaking, and every time i started it with in a few mins it would start leaking , after still not being able to find my leak with the throttle body's on and such a small area, so i decided to pull them off to see if i could find the issue. after pulling the throttle body's off i was able to get in there and see the hoses and where its leaking, so i thought, after pulling the baffle back it looked like it might be a head gasket leaking but with the throttle body's off i couldn't start the bike to check and see where it was leaking so i had to think of something else, so i took off the pipe that goes to the cold start on the throttle body's and on the tee i hooked up a hose that i then ran to an air compressor and turned it to about 13lbs when i heard bubbles in the over flow i lowered it down. it then showed me that i had two other pipes that where leaking at the thermo housing even tho the clamps where tight and that it was not a head gasket leaking at this time. so after replacing the clamps with thicker ones i pressurized the system again and this time no leaks, so i started putting the bike back together, this is the socket set up i used to get into where the clamp bolts are located and how to get into them...
got the throttle body's back on and tried to start the bike and it started but kept back firing, at first i didn't under stand why and i ended up looking at a pic i had taken before and sure enough the map sensor and throttle pos. sensor both have the same connectors on them, well sure enough i had them in the wrong place, so i tried to fit the connector between the metal that holds the throttle body's apart and the block but it wouldn't go, i had to undo the 3 bolts since u cant get to the 4th one easy and i was able to work the wire around the metal bracket and switch positions and then restarted the bike, fired up great and had good throttle response, ran the bike for 10 mins and no leaks so i put it back together and then went for a 10 mile ride, so far so good.....
