Where is the traveling shim kit?

Got a fellow in PA wants me to stop by next month to assist with a tune-up on his 1100. Figured it'd be a good idea to have the shim kit if it's still floating around.

Anyone? Bueller?

I just checked my 98 last year with 62K on the clock and they were dead nuts perfect.

What have others experienced when checking valves? Is this common? I have heard some go 100K+ without needing adjustment.

IIRC The shims are different ranges (or there is only a slight overlap).
I know of no travellng ST1300 shim kit.

The kit I've been loaning out is the Hot Cams kit that covers 1.20 to 3.50 mm in 0.05 mm increments, which is more than enough (1.20-2.90 mm for the 11 and 13, according to the parts fiche). Honda's shims are in 0.025 mm increments, but with 0.06mm of in-spec range, the HCs will get you in range.

The kit is in the mail to George's mystery friend, so the problem is resolved.

Maybe we need come up with more kits. Anyone got the kit contents and instructional videos? :tc1: I could create another one for the group.

My :slv13: has almost 38K miles on it and I haven't needed to shim yet but that could change soon I guess. :( I had it checked at the STealership with 18K on it and everything was fine. Guess I'm a little over due for another check up and would like to do it myself this time. ;)

I should add that the kit I'm shipping around includes the shim kit, feeler gauges, a micrometer and a set of sealing washers for the cam retainers (which I expect will be replenished if used) and a copy of the Valve Check Quick Guide.

Another minor correction: I don't coordinate the ST1100 Shim Kit, Eric Russell, STOC 2860, does:

The kit does include an excellent video of how to check and R&R ST1100 valve shims, which can be viewed here also (click on the link to Will England's webpage in the AOW article): http://www.stocrallies.com/st-riders/index.php?topic=1460.0

I wouldn't be comfortable trying to adjust my valve clearances with only .05mm increment shims, but that's just MHO. Remember, .001" = .0254mm, close enough so that for every thousandth of an inch clearance that a valve needs to be adjusted is just that many increments of the available Honda shims up or down from the one currently installed.
