Why are EC spec carb slides aliuminium and US ones resin? Are they interchangable?

I have a 1991 and a disassembled set from a later 1100. By slide, you mean the part with the flexible diaphragm attached? That's metal on both sets of mine.

Yes thats the part. Are your carbs both from the US?

You don't want aluminum slides , sliding in aluminum slide throats . metal against metal gauls the throats so they start to hang up & not slide properly for smooth engine performance - ruins carb balance . had first hand experience with this on my '76 GL-1000-LTD ; in ~20K miles , ruined the bike's performance that was otherwise a great MC , but miserable Kehin bad design early carbs.

Wounder why Honda made some from plastic? Thought they were for US market but obviously not. Any info appreciated.
