Hi,

I have a V1 that I want hard wire for power into the quartet harness. I've got all the hitachi pins etc, but the question is, which wires are the hot and the ground? On the wires provided with the unit, it appears that there are four leads.

I checked their site, they say that you can use a standard RJ-11 phone wire, but these only have two leads and I couldn't get it to work using one of those.:(

I don't want to use the adapter provided, just have a cord straight to the quartet.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Was there a car plug supplied with the unit? You could use an ohmmeter to see which pins connect to the inner (+) and outer (-) contacts on the cigar lighter plug. (That's how I figured out my Escort.)

Buddy of mine has a V1, I have the Escort 9500ix. He was going to help me wire mine into my ST as he already has his V! wired on his BMW RT..he's in the office wiring business and has all the tools, wiring and knowledge.

One thing he was surprized about was that the Escort could be wired direct to 12 volts using a simple phone wire. Reason is his V1 has a voltage step down device built into the vehicle power cord that MUST be used..12volts direct in would fry his V1. Just a word of caution...wouldn't want to see you fry your V1 if it's the same as my friend's.

Apparently the Escort has it's step down device internal in the unit itself...if it even needs one.

The mystery deepens - since they're open today, I called Valentine, they said there's no step down and I could hard wire it using a plain old telephone cord. It's the middle two leads that are the hot/ground. Hooked it up, crossed my fingers, switched on the bike and turned on the unit. No sparks or smoke, seems to be working fine. Only gripe is that I had to use a glass fuse, I don't have any 1 amp ATMs. (Do they even make them?)

Still, I appreciate the advice and support!

Thanks!

Yup, apparently your V1 is a little different than my buddy's. His is probably five or more years old. if I had to guess. Sounds like yours can be wired just like my Escort, with a regular phone plug/wire. Or maybe my buddy is just misinformed???

This worked really handy in my Mustang where I was able to grab power from the dome lights above the rear view mirror...ran the very short cord out the headliner about theee inches showing to the detector...very neat and no dangling cord to the cigar plug...similar on my ST.
