I'm ALL about learning more about how to ride well.
When I first began off-roading, in my 40s, I was amazed at how much FUN you could have at 15mph.
To really open up your options, do consider an offroad training class. At the bottom of my list would be the MSF Dirt School, as a retired RiderCoach. The MSF offering is lame, and does not offer much compared to other schools.
ADVrider may be a resource for GOOD training in your area. It will accelerate your learning, your confidence, while simultaneously minimizing your drops and dirt naps.

That type of bike opens up a lot more possibilities for exploration and scenery you were not even aware was there because before it was inaccessible to you. You will probably be surprised what you will find in your own backyard that you didn't even know was there. Go exploring and have fun.
Andrew, my thoughts exactly when I was riding last night. A different world is opening up for me, short excursions and I can come home and sleep in my own bed. ;)
