I am going to get a custom seat made up by Tony Archer (UK seat builder)

So the question is what should I ask for?
I am 6'3 and 21 stone (130kg) so not a small guy.

My main issue currently is comfort as I spend a few hours in the saddle every day about 250 miles.

As a few of you have has your seat rebuilt, I thought I would ask

If you discuss what you want with Tony, in my experience he will do you a great job. I had him alter seats on my Rocket III and Street Triple. I wanted comfort on the Rocket, and he sculpted it for me, added some height at the back & put in a gel insert too.

I haven't had him do my Pan, but I understand he's dome a few of those already, so he probably just needs to discuss it with you, to sort out your needs.

Talking to Tony is easier said than done... I called 6 times then got through to a female who attempted to help but really did not.
I was told to write my requirements down then he will call me when he gets the seat.

So I sent the seat in last week and we will see what happens.

Blimey, that's never happened to me.

He is a really non-tech kind of bloke - only just worked out how to use a mobile, let alone a computer, but he's a wizard with the seats.

When you do get him, it's difficult to get him to stop talking :)

I've found that you have to phone him every now & then to get him to focus, unless you don't mind a long delivery date.

I understand.... That is why I trust him as his skills in seats are great.
Well he has my number and he will call because he needs payment which will be the next fun bit as I have not got a ball park figure yet.
I was told that there is a 2 week turn around... but I will try to remind him via pigeon or smoke signals :)
I really can;t wait

Both seats Tony has done for me, (one on a Rocket, other on a Street Triple) he posted them back completed with an invoice. Each one was ?60, which was a bargain.

Only bloke I know who did the work first and asked for the money after he returned the seats!

I would definitely try and get in touch before he just goes ahead and interprets what you've already said :)

I have contacted Tony and got through to the nice lady.... but there seems to be a language barrier, it took 4 attempts to understand "you will have it Tuesday" I then gave up.
So I guess the one who make the magic happen will do what he thinks is best and we go from there.

I think he must have a glamourous assistant these days then.

By the sounds of it she speaks the same Northern as he does :)

Best of luck with whatever you get.

Her Northern is a little thicker.

Will post pictures when I get the seat back.

Having seen your thread, I phoned Tony Archer earlier in the week and spoke to the man himself. I seemed to have missed out on his glamorous assistant:(. He is certainly a nice bloke but all a bit vague so it will be good to see how you get on.

His reputation is excellent I'm just a little wary of spending money on something that you haven't seen and you just describe to him on a bit of paper with a couple of photos picked off the internet. He quoted (well mentioned) costs of ?100 to re-cover the seat and ?60 each for the gel pads.

I look forward to your update.

Yes, I wanted to talk to him to see what other options were available... i.e. STD seat job = ?110 or ?180 for the superdelux model?
But I guess he knows what he is doing.

PS I did not give or mention any pictures expect refer the the one on his website.

These are the two he did for me - hopefully these will set your mind at rest. I described what I wanted on the phone, and posted him a few drawings & pictures of the sort of look I was after and left the rest to him.

The date is now slipping..... From Monday to Friday.... not totally unexpected.

Less time to play with new seat :(

When I heard the seat had arrived :D drive straight home to take it out on a spin....
Took a look at the seat and it was basicly a STD seat recovered (nice-ish) and extra foam put in... :( but I though at least it is going feel great... well within 5min I was temped to turn back and return the seat but I thought nah give it time... so 20miles later my bum was sore in places that it wasn't before.

My wife loves the back seat but said without prompting the front is a little hard.

So my new seat look better than the STD seat but comfort wise it is worse within minutes... so I guess a call to Tony Archer (or Denise aka lovely assistant)

So how is the seat now?

I have a Sargent seat with well above 100k miles on it and was considering a "service" Of the seat by someone in the uk.

Regards

Peter.
