Speedo- dash light Mod

knelson1969

I am ready to take on the job of switching out my dash LED's I want to go with Blue instead of orange. has anyone done this on a ST1300? I would like to find the parts before I take my dash apart.
Thanks in advance.:bow1:

Don't know if anyone here has a photo of the gauge cluster circuit board?

fwiw from blue gauges.

13.) Can you tell me the specifications of the LED's you use so that I can find my own?

The LED's vary depending on the bike. Most of the bikes use a size 1208. Different bikes use a different number of LED's. (Anywhere from 8 in the 954 gauges to 31 in the Hayabusa gauges) I understand the situation you may be in (overseas, etc.) but, we have spent several hours looking for and testing several different pieces from several manufacturers for each and every gauge available on this website. Most of this information is not given out freely.

I am guessing from the lack of help that no one whom owns a st1300 wants to or has done a led swap. once I do it If I get enough interested
1300 owners I will document the mod as I do it.

A number of people I think would be curious to see your progress and what it entails.
Don't know how many people are bothered enough to tear into it and start reworking with surface mount components.
Keep us posted with your progess and as always....

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!! This thread just reminded me I have burned bulb on lipSTick's dash. Just had her all apart last Saturday and forgot to change it.

Both STick and ReSTored have red incandescent bulbs from AutoZone, cheap 'n easy change. Power drain on those little things are negligable, don't see the need to go to LEDs.

Today I took my Gauge cluster apart to find out what is needed to do a led swap I found 33 1208 Leds and a orange filter for the lcd display
the leds are about 50 bucks. it seems that Blue gauges offering this mod for a hundred bucks is a great deal so I will be sending it out.

you might peruse "superbrightleds.com" they have a lot of information and even if you don't get a direct replacement. it'll give you an idea, what's out there. sorry upgraded explorer and unable to provide a link-

I considered changing my dash, but the LCD reversal was beyond my threshold for screwing something up. The turn around time and total cost involved with Bluegauges.com is hard to beat when considering the alternative. They did a great job on my dash and I am very happy with the results.

it seems to me that the lcd reversal just consist of new leds and change out the filter to white I wonder if paper could be used as a filter?

Yeah, George likes to kick it old school. I hear he even carries an abacus to calculate tips for pie...:D

That is a dastardly canard!
I he doesn't use a abacus!
He uses his fingers (and please don't make him go above 10 as he uses his toes then!!!).

:D

it would be nice if someone offered a kit for this job as it is a very easy DIY project.

By the way if your adventurous enough to mod your own dash lights remember to put the needle back on with the speedo-tach connected to the bike with the key on engine off or it will be way out
I also found out that the bike will run without the speedo-tach unit off the bike so if you send yours out to be modded you could put it back together without it and still ride!!!!
I am not sure if the bike will add up miles without this or not most likely the on board computer stores the miles and the odometer just displays this data.
I guess I could tie strap my headlight to my bike and drive it it without the speedo for a mile or two to see what happens. if anyone knows for sure chime in.
this finding is interesting as it leads me to believe that this speedo unit could be swapped out of aftermarket gauges hmm makes me wonder about the possibilities:excited:

This is something im very keen on doing and very interested if you have done yourself
pics of the pcb board will be nice
