GoldWing Adjustable Levers...

WOW, I think I pulled a lobe reading that! That was a fair amount of research. But it seems to explain the strangness between finalchecker's experience and mine. Maybe. I think Jefro, who started this thread, had to swap the knob assemblies also but I don't know the year of his bike. My brake lever didn't need that at all. If Jefro had an '08 like final checker then maybe you be ok.

But it's a drag to spend any money and found out a mod won't work. Maybe we should start a new thread: Roll Call for Adjustable GoldWing Levers: If you got 'em, sound off with your model and year!

BradnChristine's work is good. I consolidated some of the pictures and you can see there are at least 2 different stock levers that do have differences, the picture from wjbertrand page 4 shows the lever that had a portion of the lever shaft 'relieved' to maintain clearance with the throttle mechanism; my 2008 doesn't have that nor does finalchecker's. The adjuster wheel is placed further away on the 2008 as well.

My take on the 2008; the 2008 stock insert and adjuster wheel will fit the Kury lever and allow the insert to contact the master cylinder piston at the proper point if the narrower Kury lever is properly shimmed in the m/c bracket, BUT the other end of the insert will not rest on the adjuster wheel cam at the designed location, (though it may still operate ok, I haven't tried it). My stock bushing is in pretty tight, otherwise I would have taken some pictures of what I'm describing here.

Hmm, I'm not able to show the pics, website doesn't seem to take em. Any hints?

The file size has to be smallish, around 400K I think. Otherwise I struggle to get a pic posted and can offer no help.

I started another thread about years and model numbers because I thought this was getting a little too ungainly, but maybe I should have kept that all here.

Good catch on the brake lever relief, Mark. There was no mention of not having it on the 2008 levers or I missed it.

I hope you guys can get this all worked out without needless expense. These levers have been a great improvement for me. I wished I had found out about them much sooner.

mark, NICE work on organizing the pics, and with the lines and arrows and paragraph on the back.

And good catch on the size of the bracket for the brake lever housing. I'd not noticed that. I'll have to check my 2010 as I think mine has the small bracket. But I don't have bracket envy.

Thanks Robert.

You guys have really been great and I'm happy to give back when I can. :)

Thanks guys. It was surprising to me as I went through the posts and then looked at the profiles of the individual posters, trying to see what their year/model was. Almost none of the sidebars or the profiles actually specified the bike that the person had. When I saw red ones or black ones, I knew they weren't 2003 models...but the 2007 silver looks similar to my 2003, so even the pictures didn't seem to be helpful. At least I know the Standard/ABS issue doesn't seem to matter. I'd really like to try this...if it is gonna work. I don't like the idea of having to grind the chrome and rough it up...but looks like it is gonna be needed.

I went ahead and did the work to also install the Kury Goldwing brake lever on my '08A. It was a little extra work, required a little grinding to create clearance for the adjuster wheel, but it works nicely, looks good and feels good in the hand. Under hard braking, I presume I could get a little more pressure on the brake since the lever is wider and cuts less into my fingers. If anybody wants to pursue, I can add more info.
