Paint for Cylinder Head Covers?

david607

Hi there guys just wondered if you could advise me got the bike srtipped down for winter was thinking of spraying the head covers do i need to use special spray paint ??? or just normal ??? just thinking about the heat issue Thanks for the help

Dupli- color and rust-oilum make special spray paints for engines in more colors. I've seen them even in Home Depot, but any Autoparts store sells those.

The heads on my 1300 are corroded and some of the paint has flaked off, it looks unsightly but I suppose its the joys of the poor uk weather and when its used regularly, heat resistant paint is what I am looking for just need get the right shade of gunmetal to do it but its not on my urgent to do list, maybe one day...

I've needed to do the samething because there are some scratches on the left side of my '04 due to the accident it had. I just might pull the ones off my spare engine and paint them before putting them on the '04.

Also, I would like to find the correct color for the steps, so I can repaint them!

Anyone? :shrug1:

If you can find the correct shade i am sure others would be glad of the info, on a separate note that was a mighty fine repair job you did on the bike you bought, I read and followed your repair and was amazed at the finished pictures of it you posted.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed reading about it. I've put almost 5K on it since I bought it, but I'm still not done. I still need to find some PERFECT (like new) shaped main fairing parts for it! ;)

+1......Duplicolor in HighTempSilver is the ticket! That paint doesn't even discolor painted onto exhaust!.........know that from experience.

I was actually thinking to spray my heads gold since my st is black with gold pinstripes. That could look interesting

That is the colour i am thinking of doing am i right or wrong MMMMMMM anyone seen it done ???????#

Having looked into this I would have to buy a can of spray that I thought that was close to the colour, test spray something then compare against the rocker cover on the bike and only then dismantle, degrease and mask off any required areas before spraying.

I have seen a few likely matches of spray on ebay but I have not taken the step to buy.

I did also see a spare rocker cover on ebay but it was accident damaged so that was quickly ruled out.

If you find a colour that is close let me know as I am interested in doing this.

Guess Duplicolor is fallin' on deaf ears...............do as you may....

+1 for Dupli-Color. This is the closest in quality to OEM that you can get in a can, as long as you can find your color...and there are a LOT of colors in their charts. I even found a perfect match for Cummins Tan when I did my diesel.

I seem to remember one of the members on My-Mc did his rocker covers but had a nghtmare, first with the undercoat or primer then with the topcoat.... never really dried and kind of went soft....
He took that off and sent the covers with the plastic front bits to a specialist coater.... and had them chrome finished....

Looked okay although it did discolour a little..... clearly not an easy place to paint well and get it to stay looking good...

Duplicolour may prove hard to find over here...... our weather and riding conditions demand a better result than you might get....

20121202_120549 sml.jpgI painted mine with ordinary cellulose in Honda Sparkling Silver NH295M Colour looks ok to me. I researched a little before painting them and several people stated that due to the relatively low heat, ordinary paints would be ok. One guy said be used ordinary 2 pack paint to paint engine blocks on a regular basis.

That looks really good however the 1300 covers are much darker than that, I will probably hang off until I see something that works for me.
