I've going through the helmut shuffle for the last year trying to find the right match for my head and ears and so far still not where i need to be. Currently using a HJC HJ-16, at least it fits. I like the internal sunscreen. I had to add overized cheek pads but it generally fits well. The problem is the noise. I was looking into alternatives and came across the Shoei and saw they are offering the GT-Air that has an internal sun screen. Looks like several dealers are saying Feb. ship dates, so not sure if it's out yet.

Just wondering if anyone has seen/tried on of these.

The Shoei GT-Air is the newbi to the Shoei line of products. Not a whole lot to say at thi point we're still under snow here in the east and ourbikes are stoad away for the wonter months. Like all new Shoei helmets they are very expensive, however there are alot of alternatives out there like Shark, Nolan, Kaos, etc.. Coming from an HJC any helmet will be an improvement. The most inexpensive tend to lack on quality and have a high Noise level and need to ridde with ear plugs. Take a look at some reviews such as Revzilla it should help you to determine which helmets suits best for you. Cheers! Frenchie

I tried on a GT-Air as it was on the shelf at a local shop. I like the fit and feel of the Qwest line, but when I saw the flip down sun vison I had to try it. I too have an HJC and it is very worked in and noisy. The GT-Air fits nice and snug for me and appears to be built for quiet riding. There is a chin flap that helps seal the bottom under your chin, and the neck cushion seems to conform nicely also. Although I did not ride with it, I am adding it to my list of potentials for the spring. Shoei is a bit spendy, but I figure it is my head and if there was ever a time to buck up, a helmet is probably a good start!

and have a high Noise level and need to ridden with ear plugs.

While my Neotech is quieter than some helmets, I've never owned or used a helmet that wouldn't benefit from me using earplugs, especially after a few hours in the saddle. If there's a process for building a *quiet* helmet, it's being guarded by the NSA.

Besides making the exterior smooth enough to avoid generating turbulence, the shell inert enough to avoid transmitting sound, and the neck area sealed enough to abate noise and turbulence, we need adequate ventilation, and that has to be quiet as well. By "quiet" I mean lack of noise, not noise overpowered by ear speakers or earbuds. Until quiet helmet exists, there are earplugs.

I think this may be my next helmet. Revzilla has a youtube video on it. I think it will be a nice upgrade from my hjc.
- all padding is removable for cleaning
- internal sunvisor
- pinlock shield
- good ventilation
- quiet (we will see, I do ride with ear plugs tho.)
I'm going to try one on for size in the next couple weeks.
I'll post back up here when I actually get to ride with it for a little while. :)

I had to comment! It`s funny to read stepping up to.....a Shoe vs HJC is like comparing a Chevette to a Cadillac. Premium quality to a mediocre. It would be my choice for a new helmet. Noise reduction should be considerable. I to have an HJC helmet...heck it came free with the bike, but man windnoise just kills you after 2 hours of riding. I suggest you try it out at the shop for a good half hour if not more unless the salesperson is in a hurry for a commission. Nice thing about Revzilla you can always return it for free and exchange it or get your money back.
Good riding!!!!!

I am going to try one on for proper sizing. I have tried on other model Shoei's before. I have just been waiting for Shoei to put the sunvisor in a non-modular. I liked the fit of a Shoei better than an Arai. Guess I have a Shoei head.:D You're not kidding about chevette compared to a cadillac.LOL

I currently own a Joe Rocket and wish it was a bit quieter. But I have only been riding again for 3 months, so I might have great helmet and not know it.

OK, I realize this thread is aging slightly but had to offer my view of the GT Air. My wife and I both picked up the Journey TC-5 (grey black silver). Fit is very similar to our old EXO-1100 Scorpions and maybe a little tighter for me in the Large size. The seal around the neck roll is perfect for me. My wife's Small will require the larger 39mm cheek pads (already ordered) since she has a very narrow face and she also likes a very tight fitting helmet. We both agreed on our test ride that there is very little noise with the vents closed and acceptable wind noise with all the vents open. The sound is a rushing of air not a frantic scattering of wind noise that the EXO offers. We normally wear ear plugs all the time but tried the GT Air without them for a ride to see if the claims of silence are 'real'...and they are! I took a solo ride earlier today and I have to say that with my Scorpion EXO-1100 I can tell exactly where the silence begins when raising the stock shield on the ST1300...with the GT Air I really have to listen for the change with the same windscreen setting. This is a very impressive helmet and it just slides through the air compared to my cheaper Scorpion (which I thought was a pretty good unit). Sun visor is optically correct and the pinlock is fantastic. Try as you might, it will not fog. Good thing it is included as it is needed because the helmet fits so tight around the neck that fogging is going to happen unless you have some forward momentum to defog things. Anyway...thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth. I really like this helmet...should have spent some money long ago. Shoei gets my vote this time. Cheers :)

The detents are also very solid so it stays put at the first notch if that's what you want for air flow. Also...this lid not being Snell approved doesn't frighten me off at all...it is a Shoei isn't it? I don't think they would send junk out the door for sale. Further my initial thoughts of the helmet...rode in the rain today and the GT Air is water tight and does not fog with the pin lock inserted. Very nice.
