Hello, My owners manual says the final drive 'Drain Bolt' torque is 14 lb-ft. There is no torque listed for the Oil Filler Cap. Does anyone know what it is ?

Not to tight as you will crack it as other have done.

I turn it until it is snug! :tools1:

I have never had a problem in the last 31 years of owning Hondas with a shaft drive! :D

9 lbs ft or 12.2 Nm or broadly equivalent to 1 finger tightness at the end of a spanner. The O ring does the sealing, so doesn't need grollying...

Cheers

Snug it down with a 6-point socket, and call it good. You can always check it a time or two in the next 2-3 weeks to insure it hasn't loosened up any. As previously stated a time or two, the O-ring takes care of the sealing.

9ft lbs does anybody really torque that?
page 14-3 of my 2003-2007 service manual.

Well, add me to the broken final drive oil filler cap club. Man, I feel dumb... not like this is the first bolt I've ever tightened. Should have known better.

Suggestions on sourcing a new one?

Yes, 108 inch pounds. Never had a problem. I set the torque wrench at 105 inch lbs. Just in case the the T- Wrench's calibration is off.

I like: discounthondaparts.com I think that part is about $6.50 and the o-ring is $2.13. Both are found on then Final Driven Gear fiche. I will say that their postage will kill you, unless you buy a number of parts. That's when the savings over the dealer's prices start to add up. I compared total price for two orders for that site, cheapcycleparts.com, and cyclepartsnation and found disc-hond-pts to be the cheapest overall for these two orders. You might find others out there that offer better pricing. Btw, I also go to my dealer and pay his high prices and local sales tax for one or two small items when I need them. As I said, not only does shipping kill the price advantage for small orders, but I want my dealer to hang in there so he is available when and if I need him. This thinking is skewed, I admit, if I place all my larger orders on line, but, hey, I'm far from perfect.

Ooops - my pricing is for a 2010 ST - you will have to go to their website and check for your model year.

Thanks. I've found the part at a few online shops but shipping is ridiculous... $24 for $9 worth of stuff? Heck, they even wanted $24 shipping for just the o-ring! I'm not paying for that racket. I'll check the local Honda dealer today... they were closed yesterday.

Edit: Dealership price for the cap was reasonable ($9) but said it was a special order part and might take a week to get it. Remembered to check Partzilla... they had the cap and o-ring for $9 with $6 shipping, thus ordered. So, for the next person that does this, here are the Honda part numbers for an ST1100...

Final Drive Oil Filler Cap: 41511-ME5-000
O-Ring: 91302-001-020
