Apologies is this is the wrong place. The screw came out of my speedometer cable (which was cracked at the mounting anyway) so I'm replacing the entire cable. I have it already, just wondering if there are any sticky wickets to navigate at the gauge end.

I'd "attack" it from the top: remove windscreen, garnish and grey panel underneath.
That enables you to look at the backside of the speedo/instrument cluster plus, if required, to grab the fixing nut with a pair of pliers (after some years they can be pretty stuck)

And lube that cable (#1 reason they break)...
I use marine grease in the speedo drive which works itself up the cable, so no issues on my STs yet

Thanks! Already special ordered the cable so no returns... but this is a great idea. This appears to be a fairly common break..had the same issue on my PC800.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering about lubing the cable.

Do NOT put lube up near the top of the cable. You don't want it to get into the speedo head. A very thin smear on 90% of the length is plenty. And don't use gorilla hands on that screw. It just needs to be snug.
