Thats encouraging news! I found a document online that said that the 590 was not eligible for the discount but maybe it was an outdated document. Did you have to mail your 550 in first or did you have to pay full price first then get a credit for the 20% back?
 
Following this thread closely as my 550 died in November. Lots of good suggestions...still not sure what to get to replace it.
 
I ordered a new 590LM from Garmin this morning with 20% off. The way they do it is, I had to pay the full retail price of the 590 ($799), then when they receive my dead 550 after I mail it in, they will credit my credit card back the 20%. That makes my price $658. It would be even less if your not in a hurry. I paid $19 for 2 day shipping to have it for my upcoming trip.
 
Does anyone use the Garmin Smartphone link app? It would be nice to have the weather radar and traffic options if they work well.

I use it. But it does hit your data so I only use it when I think weather or traffic may be an issue and even then, mostly for the weather.

Well, that presents a second question, do you know how Data hungry it is? With some IBA rides coming up, there is potential for me to have the app running for 24 or even 48 hours straight.

I think the traffic is updated every 2 mins... the weather, I'm not sure about.. I've never monitored the data, I just turn on the app if I know I'm going through an area with some weather in my way.

I don't have the traffic app but the weather app ran all of last year and used about 4 mb of data.
