I am looking for led headlights that will fit an ST 1100 with out releasing the retaining clip. I see that Spiderman did a thread on this, but he's got a 1300. I've already wasted over $150 on bulbs that were supposed to fit but after modification simply hit the retaining clip and released the bulb. I've found a pair that I'm going to install that look just like a standard bulb, so I know it will fit. Nay Sayers are already telling me they will be junk. I'll find out soon enough I guess.

What make are the ones that you are going to install?

You have three choices really.
  • Use the Honda OEM bulbs.
  • Use any H4 bulb with the two lower tabs cut off installed using the adapter rings that are required for the ST1100- despite what the ad says they are not required for the ST1300.
  • Use any bulb that is assembled to a base plate that is made to fit directly in to the ST1100 headlamp housing without modification as it is the same design as the Honda OEM ones. Here is an example of one such bulb- Cyclops 10.0 H4 LED headlight bulb. Note: If you order these you must specify the optional H6 base for the ST when you place the order.

Are looking for an LED bulb unit that does not have a heatsink that is outside the headlight case assembly???

You'll find some, but they will function as daytime running lights (ie See-me) only. They will not be bright enough to effectively replace night time vision headlights (ie Me-see).

Order these two things. I have them in my 11 and they work great. Cut the lower two tabs off the LED bulds and install with the rings. Trim the rubber boot on the inner circle. Zip tie the drivers to something. Plug drivers into factory headlight plugs. Rotate the bulbs till you get a level cut off pattern. It really is easy. Huge difference in light output.

I purchased the Katana's as recommended by Spiderman, Installation was a breeze, and they work great. Review his tread and follow his advise is my advise to you.

I used this bulb from a different vendor and the rings from a Canadian vendor, https://www.ebay.com/itm/H4-ADAPTER...937656?hash=item1ec6e556f8:g:Yk4AAOSwTM5YzBC5

Total time to install, including cutting the tabs off, was about 20 minutes for both, made possible since the headlight assembly was out of the bike. Zip tied the drivers to the instrument panel and hooked it up for testing.

Now, I’m waiting to take the bike in for it’s safety and then license it but based on preliminary testing on the street outside my home, it’s a winner. Excellent cutoff on the low beam and nice bright light.

I’m very pleased.
