Shock adjustment

The well nuts are the things the windshield screws screw into, right? Despite being a tech, I've never been very good at reading parts diagrams like this. I'm pretty sure I need #16 and #8 for the windshield screws themselves and then #19 for the clip that you mentioned goes under the word "Honda" on the front cowl piece.

PS - Thanks a lot for this site, it's amazing.

From that fiche, you want #'s 9, 16, 17 and 18 - 5 of each. If you have any of those that are still usable, order less.

You need #19 for the pin in the black 'Honda' garnish.

I only moved it 4 positions.
In moving it four times you've had it in five positions. Any where it's set to is a 'position'. When in good shape adjusting one click from Min or Max is a different adjustment. It's not like a light switch that might have Off and four levels of brightness. Off only accounts for an adjustment of something if you're a used car salesman wearing check pants and a white vinyl belt. Or if you're a used car salesman.

Hex head screws? Don't they stand a little proud of the windshield? More so than the OEM screw does? Give us a picture Dean.

How the heck do we post just a thumbnail image? Used to be able to do it with no problem.
I choose the insert thumbnail option and all it does is add the thumbnail to the already huge picture.

There you go.. you just click and delete the big pic then insert thumbnail.

I insert the picture and the thumbnail. I then delete the big picture, leaving only the thumbnail.

What's wrong with posting the full size pic? I always choose that option. The thumbnail has to be expanded to see it properly anyway.

Didn't see the way to delete the big one.
I'll get it right next time!
Just cursor back to it and use backspace or delete, depending on the cursor placement.

Some are too big, some are used too often in replies and not everyone wants/needs to see the larger version. IMO, the thumbnail is usually big enough to get across the idea with the user option to expand as necessary.

Thanks, I got the shock absorber thing worked out now.

I'm going to order all new screws/parts for the windshield. I currently have a mix of stock/non and I'd rather just start with all new parts to go with my new windshield.

Is that place the best place to order brake pads? Is there a good set of instructions on how to replace the pads on here or somewhere else?

Also, she's running a bit rough at idle. The guy who sold me the bike gave me a set of spark plugs he was going to install but hadn't gotten to yet. Is there a set of instructions for that here or somewhere as well?

Thanks again for all your help and information, it's truly invaluable.

It looks like you could REALLY benefit from getting the Honda Service Manual for your bike. It can guide you through a lot of the repairs you need with brake pads and other stuff in the future. Spark plugs are pretty basic, but you do need to make sure the gap in the plug is set correctly before installing the new plugs. Just unscrew the old ones and screw the new ones in. Do NOT over tighten, but just enough to crush the washer on the new plugs.

You mentioned being a tech. A tech in what field, if I may ask? You do need some proper tools for working on the bike and for you, who sounds a bit inexperienced with this, a torque wrench would be a good tool to have, to ensure you tighten things to spec and don't strip threads.

Look for either the Honda Service Manual or a Clymer Service Manual, which covers your model year.

Partzilla and Partsfish are two good sources for parts and it does pay to compare them, as prices do usually differ between them. You already have the Partzilla site. Here is Partsfish.

Also, you want to make sure that set of plugs are the correct ones for your bike. Best not to assume the PO knew what he was doing. I kind of doubt that will solve your poor idle problem though. It could be more of a carburetor issue.

Has the bike been sitting unused for any length of time prior to you buying it? Did the PO give you any written history of what he may have had done to it, service wise?
