ST1100 fuel shut off valve

The Honda parts dealer seems to only have the complete Valve , $ 250 + shiping and taxes . Found this on e-bay . Anyone tried these ? I have not had any problems with the original valve/auto petcock , but trying to stay ahead of the game .

most people here just remove the valve when it fails and bypass the hoses. I think a few people have repaired them, not sure about the success rate as I recall Bush claiming his repair failed again and he just bypassed it after that.
 
If you search through this site, you will find many posts where people have repaired their ST1100 fuel shut-off valve only to have it leak again. In many cases it was because the replacement jobber diaphragm was smaller in diameter then the Honda OEM one. As a result, many people just remove it and bypass it to avoid a future failure at an inopportune time on the road.

Yeah, best to just eliminate it if it fails. Some repair kits, like the K & L kit I used, are not good quality, I found that out too late, necessitating a stop in the middle of nowhere on a high mountain road, spending half an hour to remove the damned thing.
 
OK , just remove it. Didn't mother Honda put it there for a good reason ?

Gee those things have gone up big time. I think I paid $ 140.00 USD for mine 10 years ago. Still wondering if yours ain't leaking or acting up why fool with it? or maybe do like the majority here when the time comes do the valve by pass and soldier on.
 
Yea , if it works don't fix it . I don't know how big a problem this is on the ST11, if does happen it's going to be in the middle of the night on a mountain top . What happens when they go ? Does it start leaking fuel into the vacuum line or just shut off the fuel ?

Mine was leaking and I kept smelling raw gasoline. Fwiw we are traveling on old motorcycles so anything could fail and leave you stranded. Fuel pumps or vacuum valve or blown hoses....pick your failure. Best to travel with a little extra money in case you have to repair and stay longer than expected.
 
Yeah… I had a Honda repair kit (made by K&L, marked as for the GL1500) diaphragm fail on me. But Martin Brunner (ST1100Y) recommended a quality kit by NRP (not sure if I got that right… didn’t make a note of it when he posted it). I had to remove my Auto Fuel Valve many years ago when en route to WeSTOC with Bill Rankin. Took about 10 mins.

I think I have one somewhere, I removed it from my bike because I thought it was creating a running problem, turned out the problem was I needed new coils and I never bothered refitting the fuel petcock, I'm fairly sure I seen it somewhere in the garage recently.

For me, most of that time is taking the plastic off. It took me a little longer this Fall on my BRG trip. I had to remove a river bag off the rear seat and dig my tool roll from the bottom of the saddlebag bag.
