Doing some work on bike and am going to do coolant drain watched a few YouTube videos and they drain the block by removing 1 bolt on right side of engine behind exhaust pipes at head but dealer tells me there are 2 drain bolts,1 one on right side head and 1 on left side head is this right because on youtube the 3 videos i watched they only remove the bolt on the right side, i bought 2 copper washers in case the Honda guy was right,Wow $7.00 for 2 copper washers
Thank you

Good morning.....I just did a coolant drain/flush/fill two months ago. Sitting on bike, left side engine has drain bolt too. #1 cylinder. I used angled wratchet box wrench to loosen/tighten those coolant drain bolts. ST1300

One on each side.
If I were you, I would not bother removing these. The little amount of coolant that comes out of there is not worth the effort, and it will not affect your cooling system in any way. You will do your cooling system a much bigger favour by spending the time and effort doing one extra flush before adding the new coolant.

Agree with Andrew, no need to remove that bolt IMO. My '07 ST1300 has 160,043 miles, I have only removed that bolt 1 time - only to get a few drips of coolant. Drain your system by removing the lower radiator hose and collect the old coolant into a container, flush the radiator and overflow bottle with distilled water. Put everything back together and refill with fresh Honda coolant 50/50. Bleed air out of system as instructed in the service manual. Then go ride and watch the engine temp gauge it should go to 3 bars and stop.

I'm with Andrew and ST-Traveler. I don't bother with the two bolts; just drain removing the lower radiator hose. I flush and fill every other year during winter maintenance.

any extended life coolant will be fine. don't waste your money on honda coolant. Color means nothing and read the label they are compatible. You can reuse the copper washers.

Thank You Guys For your Reply's, Not Going To Bother With Those Bolts,Pain in The ass To Get Back in
I normally Use The Honda Brand Of Anti Freeze But At $35.00 a Jug think i will get the Zerex Brand,Says right on bottle For use in Honda's And Is the Same Colour Blue as the Honda Brand and only $15.00 a Jug

The Honda type II coolant called for can be purchased from a Honda automobile dealership. It is the same Honda coolant that is sold at the Honda motorcycle dealership, only cheaper.

Something to consider:

You may want to do a little research first.
Just a word of caution while trying to save a few bucks.
Its your bike but remember if all were compatible I don't think Honda would spec an HP 50/50 coolant for motorcycles if auto coolant was OK. They would just say use what ever coolant is the cheapest.

Is Honda motorcycle coolant same as regular coolant?

Strictly speaking, not necessarily. While it is true that there are fewer differences between car coolant and motorcycle coolant, most experts do recommend buying a coolant that is specific for your bike regardless.
Some off brand coolants contain silicates which are not recommended on this motorcycle.

We caution you against using regular/car coolants on your motorcycle as they can end up causing costly damages to your bike and even affecting its performance. If you must use a car coolant on your bike, then make sure it contains ethylene glycol antifreeze and doesn't contain silicates in its list ingredients.

I don't know the prices in your market, so all I can offer is this;
If an equivalent sized jug of (pick your brand) was $13.00, I can appreciate your point for sure.
If it is $23.00 compared to the Honda Type II at $27.00, is it worth your time and effort to investigate what it is made from, what is in it, is it compatible and safe to use in the ST engine?
Unless the other brand is half the price of the Honda coolant, I will just use the Honda Type II and not bother thinking about it.

From Valvoline..,states it exceeds industry standards "Valvoline Multi-vehicle Antifreeze/Coolant is the simple and convenient universal solution that's proven to maximize engine life in all makes and models of automobiles and light duty trucks. It’s the only antifreeze specially formulated with Alugard Plus for compatibility with any color of coolant. It protects better than industry standards against corrosion, leaking, deposits as well as freezing and boiling – the four main causes of cooling system failure, which is the leading cause of engine breakdown. So whether you’re topping off your radiator or doing a complete system flush, trust Valvoline to help your engine keep its cool. "
do as you want but don't be fooled into thinking the dealer stuff is better

In Canada Honda Motorcycle Dealer Sells The exact Same coolent as The Honda Car Dealer Same Part number 50/50 mix type 2

I’ve used automotive, aluminum safe 50/50 pre-mix antifreeze exclusively in my motorcycles with no problems for as long as I can remember.
If the filters, plugs, oil, filters, grease, etc meet the manufacturer specs I use them no matter the brand. Regular maintenance is the key.

The Honda owner’s manual recommends Honda branded supplies but does state other comparable products are acceptable as well. I agree that you can’t go wrong with Honda branded chemical/liquid maintenance items. I am glad to have bought up my dealer’s Moly60 paste while it was still available. It works great on my Super Tenere drive splines
