Where did you ride today?

Took a little ride today. Temps were about right... around 57F. Wind was horrid... around 27 mph out of the west, no south west, no north west, with gusts higher. Most of the ride I was leaning over like I was in a curve but going straight down the road. Put just over 2 gallons in the tank to fill it at the end of the ride but mpg was terrible due to the winds. Most of the way it was a head wind because it kept changing direction when I turned so only was able to eek out just less than 51 mpg for those 2 gallons. Comparing the same temps for the last tank I went through at 55+ mpg but no big winds. Rode just over 92 miles this time and through more open fields so nothing to block or divert the winds. Almost no traffic on the roads I rode... as I was hoping. Much of the time I was the only one as far I could see. I like it like that.

I took Nozomi for a spin around the Southern Coromandel loop on Saturday, it was fabulous weather and the roads were tip-top. This was also a good test for a new fork seal, turns out the old one had been installed upside down...must have been intended for a Northern Hemisphere bike. The forks were hideously dirty and stinky inside, so needed my tender care in any case.

The ride was a very enjoyable and twisty way to spend 5 hours. Destroyed the PR4 back tyre in a good cause so time for a fresh PR5GT this week. The back disc was still getting pretty hot so I spent some quality Mancave time yesterday (while it was raining) and pulled the SMC and its one-way valve out for a clean and grease. Very much like cleaning carb pilot jets. Looking forward to next weekend for the next test ride!

Sunny today and temps right around 50F. Not a cloud to be seen. My wife told me I needed to go to Pella, IA to the Dutch bakery there, Jaarsma Bakery, to get some treats including Dutch Letters.

So I plotted a route that would keep me off the controlled access, or Interstate type, roads at least 90% of the way. Ended up riding 151 miles today.
It is just a week to go until what is called Tulip Time in Pella where they fill all the gardens around town with tulips. The flowers were all planted but with temps dipping below freezing last night and several nights over the last few weeks they were not as healthy looking as usual.

It’s over now. All good except one bad accident. K16 over the edge, down the bank, hit a tree. Helicoptered to Knoxville trauma. Crushed shoulder, wrist and ankle. His name is Frazier I think, I didn’t know him. I hear he is in rough shape. His bike still out front. He evidently had to crawl to the top of the hill to the road to be found ……

Several of the guys from this forum were here, so there will likely be other guys weigh in……
 
Nice 520km baptism of fire for a new back tyre...all twisty roads, and even took in a gravel road for S&G. Normally I don't mind a bit of gravel but there was about 5km that was freshly laid and deep and was no fun at all. The bike was brilliant but the undercarriage took a bit of a pounding; probably need to pull the brake pedal back up a bit. The weather was bright and blue but a tad blustery, and the threatened heavy showers arrived 5 minutes after I arrived back home. Job done!
