Highest Mileage ST1100

My Pan European ST1100 has 154,000 miles.The rear two cylinders are low on compression so i have brought another low mileage engine that has done only 70,000 miles.I have replaced the timing belt for a Gates belt as its cheaper than the Honda one. I have checked the valve clearances and fitted new plugs to the newer engine. I shall replace the coolant pipes + oil & filter as well. Im just waiting for a good opportunity to change them.

How low is low ? Also, did you lift the carb slides when you were checking the compression ? If not, you may get a low reading. I would double check the compression if you didn't. There may not be anything wrong with the current engine.

Since I was on here posting information for NESTOC I thought I would check out this section. I see someone has now reached 350,000 on an ST1300. So, I figured I should post this to keep the ST1100 in the lead. I turned 400,000 miles last fall but never posted it. So, here it is!

Thats alot of miles. Im new to the st1100 world but glad to have joined. They really seemed to have hit the nail in the head with building the st1100 , 1300 as well . With typical regular maintenance and a little TLC . 100,000 plus on these bikes is nothing. I have some serious riding to do. Olny 10 miles under my belt as i write this. Thanks for posting eveyone was a interesting read !
