Denray hitch with 1 7/8" ball, DIY trailer isolation wiring (4 relays) with a 5 pin connector (ground/running/brake/left turn/right turn)
There are other premade hitches out there, some that don't use a ball. There are also DIY options for the hitch and lots for the trailer.

If you are looking for a premade hitch keep your eye out for any deals. I got mine used for a ridiculously low price well before I had a trailer. New, they can be expensive.

Unit is all fiberglass except the ball connector and suspension.
Trailer is currently down for repairs.... bad torsion half axle (which means replacement not repair of both of them.)
Estimated cost $900 Cdn. <shrug>

FYI there are (at least) 2 styles of manufactured hitches.
I think this style is called the Trueman hitch and it mounts with 4 bolts at the muffler mounting points or foot rests (I'm unsure of exactly where it mounts.) Tounge weight of the trailer produces some torsion on the hitch assembly due to the cantilever effect, thus the 2 bolts per side.
The other style mounts at 4 points as well, one bolt at each muffler and two hangers that go under the seat and over the frame. They lead down the sides of the rear fender to attach to the hitch assembly. I have one of these types as in my mind they'd handle the downward force of the trailers tongue weight and less cantilevered torsion force.
I've not heard anyone complain about either model, so I'm guessing both are fine although different.
Just observe the tongue load rating to be safe. I think mine is about 30lbs.

The under- the- seat mounting, I've never seen in my research, but I can see the advantage of it.
Mine, found used here in For Sale, is the one most often heard of (Deltran or similar?) It was mentioned in the beginning of this thread), and utilized the four muffler mounting points, as is common.
EDIT: no, dummy, DENRAY trailer hitch. Deltran makes the Battery Tender. (It's hell gettin' old, ain't it @Sadlsor?)

Either style provides support for both the horizontal "pull" force and the vertical "tongue weight" force. They just do it differently.

I had a trailer on GW and loved it. The GoldWing is long gone but I still have the trailer.

I have pulled this trailer for the last 42 years with a 1978 Goldwing and now my 2010 
ST1300.

If you are just wanting to build, enjoy. However, if you are just trying to get an inexpensive trailer and not in a hurry, check craigslist. I’ve seen some smoking deals on there.

I work in a sign shop, but I have access to a machine shop (other part of company I work for) so I'm wanting to build a simple double T shaped frame, and use leaf spring suspension. The car top case I have is a X-CARGO Sport 20, I picked up at a garage sale a few months back for $50, it's 64 inches by 40 inches and about 20" tall, so it's not very big. Thank you Ron for the links you posted, the Harbor Freight trailer might make for a great starting point, not a bad price too. I'm not in any hurry so I'll keep my eyes open for any deals I can find

I met a guy out on RT 50 at lunch stop with one. He raved about how unnoticeably it towed on his X-country ride.

I bought this trailer a while back for $68, from an ex-Goldwing rider, and the Den-Ray hitch for $75.
The box is a Stor-mor RV rooftop cargo carrier, and I believe the trailer chassis was shrunken to fit it.
