Pants Recommendations on comfortable riding pants

If it makes you feel any better, the risk is always the same. I see you're in PA, what size are you? I have an older pair of Joe Rocket mesh pants for summer with light padding. I wore them for a few years and was always happy in the heat. I'll let them go really cheap and may even deliver.

Priority by injury I believe goes, helmet, gloves, boots, jacket, pants.
I hear you, and it doesn't make me feel better, :roflmao:... I'm 38/32 (sadly) and in York, PA if that helps. Any feedback on preferred Gloves? I could use an upgrade there too...

I have a Bell SRT, JR armored gloves, Alpinestar Sektor boots, JR Armored mesh jacket with removable lining, (_looking for pants_), Tourmaster rain suit with boot covers. It's a good start with room for improvement which I will use Christmas, Birthday, and Anniversary occasions to flesh-out

The gent I purchased my '08 ST1300 non-ABS from threw in a pair of Alpha Cycle Gear pants for $30 but alas.. they are super tanky and are also about 3 months' worth of dieting too small (it's good to have goals) so I don't count them as "usable" gear.

Sadlsor has been advising me on a Givi Top Case and associated Hardware for the extra cargo room as my ST did not come with one so I'm looking forward to having some added space.

Motoport strech Kevlar. They build them to your measurements. They are not cheap. Neither are skin grafts.
I've been witness to two buddies sliding off the pavement on 20mph curves and seen the resulting road rash, broken bones, and totaled bikes. Cotton t shirts and jeans do nothing for road rash except give it to you. Have a Tourmaster flex suit that I rode for years. When you start reading about surgeons having to dig melted polyester out of rider's skin I made the switch. Motoport is the only textile suit approved for AMA road racing. Much tougher than leather.
With the money I have spent on riding gear over the years I should have gone with the Motoport and would been money ahead. Many articles on riding in the heat and I've found that a moisture wicking long sleeve shirt, wetting the sleeves and shirt front, then CLOSING all your vents and let air enter up your sleeves and out the top of the jacket has kept me cooler than anything else. Keeps the heat off your skin versus mesh that bathes you in heat.
It's a redneck evaporative cooler but it will work for an hour to hour and a half. Stop, rewet shirt, continue. There's an article on this somewhere but it escapes me right now.

Sizing is a little off, have you tried FB marketplace or eBay? I have had good luck being patient and buying lightly used quality gear.

As the wise riders have mentioned above there is no substitute for quality gear.

Gloves are my weakness, that, to me, is the hardest piece to decide on. Notice I didn't say buy, I have way too many, mostly medium to cold as that is the majority of the time I spend on the bike. All but my warmest weather gloves are water resistant. IMHO brand is not as important as features. It seams though, like most things, you get what you pay for.

Depending on the conditions you plan on riding in (it's hot, going to rain), should be a factor of course. Thinking of what I have hanging in the closet and saying to my self, what would be the one pair of pants I would want to keep? Motoport stretch is my response, they can tackle all conditions and will be whole in the event of a get off. My second choice would be the Motoport mesh, with layering they to go all year. I bought them both used and the stretch took years to find in my size. Price for these used is the same as a Joe Rocket Ballistic 7.0.

As you ride more your needs will evolve, don't worry about getting the first or second, or third, lol pair right, just right now. Its summer think vents, if you can swing more money, think something with the zip out liner. Plastic pants melt first, leather, then Kevlar, most riders wear plastic and don't think much of it.

Here is years of rider experiences.

For years, I put up with the nuisance factor of carrying a rain suit. And worrying every time I saw what might be rain clouds. Last season I found a lightly used Aerostich Roadcrafter, and love it. The joy of not being concerned about rain is now always with me. Rainproof! There's lots of venting for hot days, and space for heated gear in cooler temperatures. You'll remember the quality long after you forget the price.

If you're trying to cut costs and still have protection, the HWK brand might be your answer. https://hwkmoto.com/products/hwk-mo...on-armored-all-purpose?variant=44322849095982

I was looking for a replacement for my Olympia Dakar pants. These are very similar in design. The yellow portion on the thigh, unzips and stuffs down in the knee area leaving a mesh area for ventilation. The material is light weight; it feels like Klim gear...which is not to say it is as good as Klim gear.

It would've been interesting to have been wearing these HWK pants when I had my get off in June. The Olympia gear just needed washing after the crash.

What do I like about them? They have a lot of waist and inseam combinations. Cost is minimal, which makes you wonder how they can stay in business when the well known brands charge 5X as much.
What do I dislike about them? I like a true overpant where I can wear my normal pants under my riding pants. These aren't designed for that. The zipper only goes up to the top of the boot, not the entire leg. And...well, that's about all for negatives.

I saw a number of people wearing HWK gear last summer on my travels. It looked good on them.

I'm looking at the 8" long ones. I'd like your opinion on sizing and fit, please.

I wear a 38-40 waist, but that's between L and XL sizes on the sizing chart.

Would you suggest the snugness of the large or the looseness of the extra-large?

l36-38"
xl40-42"
I wear 38" waist with thin-ish legs and I wear the L size. I like the snugness and they stay in place even if my pants move around over them. I tried the XL size but the leg portion wasn't tight enough to stay in place as I changed positions on my bike and I'd have to adjust them getting on and off. They feel plenty snug when you first put them on but they loosen up quickly and the material provides loads of airflow.
The pouch in the front keeps things from getting compacted down and provides airflow to that area too.

Thank you, Jack. I already ordered a trio in large. A 30% discount (code: WELCOME 30) brought the total to $38.15 including shipping and everything. I'm looking forward to trying them on and riding in them.

Been trying to find some pants 34" waist 36" inseam, anyone come across that size?
I have been getting "tactical" pants at Costco. They're not armored, but they are a bit stretchy, and come in both lined and unlined.

But, the longest I have seen them or jeans in there, which is the length I wear when riding, is 34" though I wear 32" when standing.

Aerostich Darien for me year round. They fit me better than AD1 but the pants are of similar construction. They offer good protection, eliminate the need for rain gear, are all day comfortable on and off the bike, and over time are a great value. I vary what I wear under them based on the temperature. That works for me and I hate being too hot. Look on eBay there are used ones for sale if you don’t want to go all in until you try them.

Motoport offers stretch Kevlar. Kevlar does not stretch or only minimally so I have always questioned the integrity of that claim. It is possible they use a Kevlar blend and left the word blend out but I’ve been to their website and saw no such product description. Decent product no doubt but I cannot get past buying from a company that blatantly makes a false statement their product by line.

Wasn't terribly hard to find;

This special Kevlar®/Dynatec/Lycra blend is the only synthetic pant material that can be worn road racing. Approved by AMA/Werra/ARMA/AMF etc.
