Does anyone know what specific screw size is used to attached the turn signal to the mirror housing?

It says "4x12", which presumes an M4, but I'm not even sure anyone makes screws like that in metric, and I'm wondering if it's a #4.

I assumed (incorrectly) that the turn signal came with these, and I'd like to just pick them up from the hardware store. Don't want to blow out the hole with something too big (that's what she said).

4 mm diameter x 12 mm long. Not a #4 in SAE or USA sizing.

Interesting, everything I can find on US stores/sites is standard, or "metric standard" (i.e. they call it M3.36 or M4.23).

Do you know of any common stores that sell these?

I need to dig up my calipers and check the hole diameter...

given that its a self-tapping screw I suspect your chances of finding that exact screw off the shelf in a US hardware store is going to be pretty slim.

Given the overall parts cost, I'd buy the Honda part from Partzilla and not try to find something close off the shelf.

That screw holds the turn signal housing to the mirror tupperware - it seats in plastic. If there really is no Honda dealer near you (I'd hate to spend $0.88 for a screw and have them charge $5.00 or more for postage) surely you can find a tiny sheet metal screw, yes SAE, that will do the job. Head for a good hardware store. I'd look for slightly smaller so you don't run the chance of damaging the mirror housing. IIRC, I did exactly what I'm suggesting when the screw that holds the plastic strip to the mirror housing decided to join a 10mm socket somewhere in my garage.

4mm is 0.1575". 5/32" is 0.1563". This is a difference of 0.0012" in diameter.
If you can't get/wait for the correct screw a 5/32" sheet metal screw should do the job. Put a dab of silicone sealant in the threaded hole before putting the screw in for added piece of mind.

Why does everyone think only honda makes screws
I'm usually the one trying to find alternatives to Honda's parts racket, but in this case I see it as a simple financial equation.

The turn signal takes 3 screws, at $0.88 each, so just under $3. If I think something at the local hardware store is "close enough" and end up splitting either the turn signal mounts ($80+) or whatever it mounts into ($???) I'd feel like a dumbass trying to save $2 with a generic screw, only to damage a much more expensive part in the process.

Yeah, but I want it now!

I placed an order with partzilla as I also have a handful of other screws I need. But I'm probably going to find something close enough since I'd like to ride this weekend. From my measurements a #8 is pretty close, and the hole in the housing is big enough for it.

This is a JIS screw therefore unless your hardware store carries these you will have to buy from the dealer.
JIS only refers to the head of the fastener. If replaced with a suitable self tapping replacement that has a slot or Phillips #2 head you wouldn’t use a JIS screwdriver.

I have a one gallon container chock full of assorted stainless screws, bolts, washers, nuts, rivets, loops, etc. in the garage and I still have to hit the Ace Hardware store on a regular basis for the right fastener.

You can get exact size and if your dumb enough to put a screw too big in then maybe you shouldn't attempt any repairs.:thumb:

Exactly.
I always find everything in the bucket(-s) except the one piece I need.
In cruel irony, if I throw something away, I'll need that very thing within days.

The corollary to having said bucket of misc. parts, is that after not finding what you need and buying it from a hardware store, the NEXT time you look in there you will find that screw.
