One of us had to do it so here it is. A thread just for NT1100 stuff..... and whatever else we get sidetracked into.

For starters the NT1100 is the direct descendant of the ST series and the sport tourer/touring bike todays market seems to want. Lighter, more legroom, more upright and yes it seems power is not the priority it once was. So it belongs here.

We get the US version. Yup whatever Honda decided is what we get. Not the first time and probably won't be the last the Europe gets cool stuff and we don't. Face it Ladies and Gentleman the US motorcycle market isn't what it once was. We are no longer the big prize for manufacturers. "You get what you get and you don't get upset."

What is exciting about it is it's A LOT of bike for the price. It's about $6000 cheaper than it's sibling the Africa Twin Adventure Sport. If you add bags it's still about $13,000! Look at what the competition costs. The NT is HALF the price of an RT. And in my humble opinion it's a better bike. I bet next year the NT1100 will be more money.

Anyway I hope everyone can benefit from this thread.

If only I had longer legs :(
I doubt that'll be a problem. People like to look at the size of the gas tank alone as an indication of range. The other factor is MPG.

I did a ride in New Mexico one day that took me @249 miles. The computer said I still had 22 more miles of range. I have a 4 gallon tank. I suspect the NT1100 will do about the same as my XR. Get it out on the open road with no stop lights to waste gas, and it'll be extremely frugal in its use of fuel. So I wouldn't write it off.

"If only I had longer legs.", not "If only it had longer legs."
I gather that he is concerned about the NT's seat height and not it's fuel range.

Ahh...I read it too fast. My bad.

As for the real legs, not the range, that's why you carry a step stool with you. :D

Yep, went and sat on one as soon as the dealer got it in. I was on the very tips of my toes. it is a large bike overall. As a 5'5" munchkin with a 25" inseam, very few bikes fit me anymore .... or ever did really. Once a seat height gets over 31" it gets tall for me. Man, if I was just 5'9" (if a frog had wings lol) there are a whole bunch of bikes I could feel comfortable riding. I don't need flat to be footed, if I can just get the balls of my toes down I'm happy.

There are of course solutions. Cut an inch out of the seat (did that on my ST 1300). Use different dog bones and slide the forks up in the clamps (did that on my FJR) and if I had been able to buy an NT 1100 4 years ago that probably would have been the route I would have taken.....but these days my NC 750X DCT is just perfect for the riding I am doing. Since my wife quit touring with me 4 years ago, I no longer needed a big 2 up interstate capable touring bike. The vast majority of my riding is curvy country roads and state routes riding, with 55 max speed limits, and very little freeway riding, so my needs have changed. Add in the fact that the NC is under 500 pounds and averages an honest 75 mpg and it's a no brainer for this old man.

If Honda were to bring the deluxe model here with the ES suspension and a manual transmission option, it’d be between the NX, the Tracer 9 GT (maybe they’ll bring the + version back) and weirdly the Gold Wing for my next bike.
Nothing wrong with my Super Ténéré but 10 years and 110,000 or so miles has my eyes wandering. Also the tallness of it seems to be more of a issue for me than 10 years ago.

The curb weight for the NT1100D is listed at 547lbs. Is its weight distribution similar to that of the ST1300? Be it center of gravity/center of balance/center of buoyancy/whatever – the ST is top heavy. Is this true of the NT?

I flat foot the ST with a slight non-standard adjustment of the seat that keeps the front in the middle position. Otherwise I slide forward underway. When stopped I really feel the top-heavy weight and being tip-toe would be a worry for me. I understand there are several here who are on the shorter side of things and have no trouble with holding it a little at a stop. I'd need some stout quads to achieve that comfort level.

Walking an ST around on tip-toes would be a no go for me. I'd think it easier with the NT. It's disappointing that Honda seems to regard ~31" as a standard seat height. I did sit on a CTX and an F6B years back and found the ergos very comfortable.

DCT and it does CarPlay? [Cue itchy trigger finger.]

NT is much easier to balance than an ST. Does not carry its weight high like an ST or FJR but not real low like an NC or a GoldWing. News flash, and this is something I didn't realize until after I owned it, It is not a mid sized bike. It is really a full size tourer tucked into a very neat package. If you think about it 1100cc is not mid size at all.

Well, guess it belongs here then:

Raising the Bar on the NT1100

Today I received my cheap (38 bucks) Amazon bar risers for my NT1100. First they don't quite have the same contour that the factory stock risers have but they will do what I want in the long run. Second the P brake cable on the 1100 will be very tight at full left turn lock with risers. Same with the front brake line. Some people just moved the the complete brake master cylinder, brake handle, and P-brake assembly down the handle bar a few centimeters to get the slack needed. Others have lowered the front of the bike/ raised the fork tubs, to acquire the needed slack. I did not want to do either of those options. How did I solve it. First the I removed the P-brake electric connector off of it's stay and then I removed the factory wire tie that hold the cables to the frame which gave them more slack and then most important I relocated the P-brake cable out side of the triple clamp and fork. The risers came with a brake line extender off of the master cylinder so that gave me the slack for the brake line. All this raised the bar about 1 inch. No binding of brake line or P-brake cable. For me that is perfect position for my old decrepit body. If any of this does not make any sense, here are a few pictures to clear up the confusion.

New Puig windscreen this morning. Light smoke.

I saw a good report on this and took the leap. It's a little taller, not super tall - position 2 ^ in the photo. I'll give it a try this weekend and get back.

I really like this…I’ll bet it changes the appearance for the better when looking at it vs the clear screen and not so tall that you can’t see over it.
