Ride Report - Hampton Boys do it again!

Day Eleven (Aug 14): We would ride down US101, across the Golden Gate Bridge and down thru San Francisco and split up in San Mateo.

We got up, dressed and went to the lobby where their eating area was, so we ordered and ate our breakfasts and went back to the room to load up the bikes.

I followed my GPS to US101 south and off we went.

It was a good, 32 miles south to the Golden Gate bridge, and of course we were in the rush hour traffic, but we did our best to stay out of most of it. Once we got across, US101 dumps into San Francisco. So, Brett and I just took it easy, staying at or under the speed limit, since they had speed cameras everywhere!

We continued for about 7 miles, where US101 turns back into a freeway and continued south until we got to San Mateo, where we stopped to gas up and say good bye to each other.

Brett would continue south on US101 and I was heading east on SR92, across the San Francisco Bay, to Hayward and continue east to Stockton, to see my brother Dave.

Once in Hayward, SR92 turned into SR238, for a few miles, and then I took I580 east. I then took I205 to I5 north, then split off to SR120 to SR99 north. Dave was waiting for me at the Denney’s, right off SR88, which is near, where Dave lives.

Dave and I had lunch and spent some time talking. Since the restaurant was not that busy, they had no problem with us there.

I then continued up SR88 up through the Sierra mountains to Nevada. I then took some side streets and made my way to US395 and headed south. I stopped for gas and then rode down to the Topaz Lodge, where WeSTOC 26 was held a few years before.

I rode about 354 miles, for the day.

Brett, on the other hand continued down US101 to Buellton and then headed east on SR246 to Solvang, where he had a room waiting.

Brett did about 340 miles for the day.

Day Twelve (Aug 15): Heading home!

I took US395 north for a few miles and picked up NV208 to the town of Yerington, where I caught US95 South. Continuing on US95 south takes you through a lot of desert and a few towns. I took a break and gassed up, at the north end of Hawthorne and continued on US95 until Tonopah. I stopped for gas and lunch.

From Tonopah, I caught US6 to continue east. Warm Springs was about 45 miles east and I turned off on to NV375. NV375 is where you DO NOT want to break down or have an accident. You are out in the middle of nowhere and you have to watch for cows on the road!

This road goes through the town of Rachel. And continues to NV318 for a couple of miles and to US93. And there is a rest stop a couple of miles before US93, in the background.

At US93, I headed north which runs through the town of Caliente. Five miles before Caliente, in the mountains, is where Chris and I ran into that horse back with my truck, in January 2022.

Then another 20 miles on US93 takes you to the town of Panaca. Where I stopped and gassed up, with taking a break. As I looked to the west, all I could see were thunder clouds and it looked like it was raining in most of it.

My direction of travel!

Once I was ready, I headed through the town Of Panaca (this is the town where Chris’s Uncle was buried a number of years before. Before that funeral, I had never heard of this town!) I was on NV319, which then turns into Utah’s SR56. This route runs through a couple of mountain ranges. And after crossing into Utah, the second range is where I hit a little rain. It wasn’t much, so I felt pretty good about finishing the ride to home. I pulled up into the garage around 7:45PM. What a ride!

For this leg, I rode right at 500 miles.

For the entire trip, I did 3,616 miles.

For Brett, said he did over 3,800 miles.

Very nice write up with great pictures! Thanks for sharing your road tales ;)
Glad all went well and everyone is safe to ride another day!
