Shock absorbers -99 ST1100 ABS with km 105000 …

... why would someone put Pirelli's on a ST? Not even Pirelli has a recommendation in their application chart.
They did so in the 90ies though...
My ST mech tried them back then; good cornering... at first... after 300km they were toast and started to smear & slip...

The only tire really working is the G547/548...

I've been real happy with the Wilburs option on all four (now three) of my ST1100s for a rear shock.
I have the Race Tech Gold Valve 'treatment' and their replacement springs in the front forks of all of them.
Tirewise I have settled on BT020 bias on the back and BT03X - radial of the month - on the front.
I usually get close to 10,000 miles out this combination and I have used it for 100,000s of miles across 4 ST1100s.

So you're making a comment based on tires from 30 years ago? :confused1:

FWIW, I don't get more than a couple of hundred miles on the latest and best from Pirelli. They start to melt too... into little balls of rubber along the tires edges. But that's on a bike with over twice the power of the ST and less than half the weight. Proper tire for proper application...

No need for service so far, but G.M.D. CompuTrack Atlanta who did my front suspension said they could.

And I also believe there is a Wilber's service on this side of the pond but I don't have the url.
I see EPM as a distributor (?) stateside. I may reach out to them, but they are a little far from me for my liking. Atlanta is out of the question for me.

FWIW Kent at Computrack gets suspension stuff shipped to him all the time from all over the place.
I took forks to him and I have shipped forks to him with great success and no issues.

I don't know Kent specifically, but we used to have a couple of Computrack's here in California. I don't doubt his capabilities, but I have a couple of outstanding suspension guys out here -- anyone good should be able to sort/service without issue. When someone specializes in a particular brand though, sometimes they are able to provide that little something extra. That's what I look for with things outside my bailiwick. And local is always preferred.

Seems I'll have to go somewhere near that too in the future...
Already wondering how that's gonna work out... never was very happy nor lucky with radials in the past...

What I like is that they both are pretty near end of life at close to the same time for me.
I tried a similar combination of Michelins but they did not beat the mileage and they cost a lot more over here.

Thanks for the great help and guidance in everything I read up on and ask about here on the st-owners.com forum :thumb: More pictures showing progress in working on shock absorbers on the ST1100 ABSII with Anti-Dive.

Not all visits to the garage are equally effective, but some assembly was done on the front along with the installation of the "rubber strip on the windshield" that I was lucky enough to get my hands on along with a number of other parts that were purchased some time ago (CMS).
