I'm going to rebuild the forks ,one of these days. Looking online at front springs , an add poped up for what they called a fork valve. YSS 335, I guess it's whats called a gold valve here (different brand though) . Does anyone know if there are any mods that have to be done on the existing forks to use these valves-or plug and play ? What to do with Anti dive system/will it effect that ? . Is it worth the hassel for a sunday rider ?
Looked at some YT videos , the guy had to cut the spacers ,and drill holes. Same deal og the ST1100 /abs ?
If you have any thoughts on these ,I'd like to hear them !

I have done Race Tech Cartridge emulators on a few bikes. The emulator sits on top of the existing damper rod and is held in place by the spring; that means the spacer may need to be shortened by the depth of the emulator (something like 15mm). It takes over the compression damping control from the damper rod but to do that, you need to "disable" the compression damping holes in the rod by drilling quite a few more; IIRC 6 x 6mm holes get drilled into the rod. Not a big job once you have the damper rod/fork pulled apart, and great accuracy is not really required. Doing that also renders the TRAC valve inoperative.

Only one side of the 1100 fork uses a damper rod, the other side uses a cartridge damper.

As to whether it is worth doing, that is up to you. Is there anything about the stock suspension that you don't like? Changing to an emulator will make for a firmer, more controlled fork feel and reduce harshness on big bumps.

I've been quite happy with the original set up . Stable, planted, runs on rails. So I wonder what I missing, and if it's worth fooling around with. The main roads here are pretty good , they do take a beating through the winter -studded tires and snow plows.
As you say, the ST1100 has two different forks , but they both get this valve ?
The photo is just YSS's illustration photo1760342331444.png

My guess is that is a stock photo for bikes that have two damper rod forks. You will only need one of those devices in your 1100. The cartridge damper is completely different and would be modified with new valve bodies and shims.

Thanks for replies folks ! The season for riding is just about over here . Got time to take apart, and think things over. Bought everything else to rebuild the forks - except springs and the anti dive stuff . Will see if they are up to spec.
