I don't hate you, but I AM ENVYOUS!

That's my favorite year of VFR... for styling at least. It's got that NR750 DNA in it.

I haven't lived with any VFs since my VF750F Interceptor so I can't argue anything other than looks. But I've demo'ed nearly all of them. So opinions about which is the most ridable, handles best, etc, would be outside my base of experience.

The 87 VF700F in dark blue with gray seat cover and bodywork accents...? <chef's kiss>

I seriously contemplated having my 91 ST1100 painted in the same scheme. My wallet argued the opposing case and won. :)

Actually an official Honda Europe bike.

Created to celebrate 50th Anniversary of Honda Motorcycles.

Attempt to recreate Honda Racing colours from 1950s & 60s.
[ Note old Honda Wing on tank ]

Reported to have been 2,500 produced.

Off topic question to the Veeferers here.

Found an older mechanic still working on older bikes, but reluctant to work on the ST1300 as he is not familiar with it.

However, he mentioned having a few VFR clients.

Are there enough similarities between the two bikes that could help him with working on the ST?

Both have a V4 engine, one chain driven cam and shaft drive, one gear driven cam and chain drive.

If he is a competent mechanic and can handle a VFR800 (fuel injection, 750s were carbs) then with downloadable Honda Workshop Manual the ST13 should be within his capabilites for general servicing and more.

There's lots of commonality across the VFR and ST1300, the 1300 can be thought of as a bigger VFR, rotated 90 degrees and with the extra balance shafts and alternator drive added and VTEC deleted.

Especially compared to the 6th gen VFR (VTEC) the camchain tensioners are functionally identical, as is the general cam/cam saddle/valve bucket arrangement so a valve clearance check or adjustment is pretty much the same. The FI system is also the same layout with wax unit for fast idle and the same starter valves for intake vacuum balance. Aside from the difference in bodywork, if you can do basic service work on a VFR you can do the same on the ST1300.
