Bike turned off in Traffic

On my commute to work and heavy traffic, the bike just turned off. Moved to the shoulder and was able to restart for a few seconds, less than a minute. Bike turned off and now will not restart.
Half a tank of gas and 150,900 miles on the odometer.
 
Sounds like a cracked/faulty crankshaft position sensor to me. At least, that is what I would check on a car... They fail when they get hot and then once they cool they work fine.

Just glancing around I didn't see a crankshaft position sensor, but I see a "generator assy, pulse" that is in the right spot. I assume based on the name that your coils won't fire if it doesn't see a signal:

My bike shut down due to the ground cap behind the right headlight melting down.
What I did was put eyelet connectors on the ground wires and joined them all together with a brass bolt. No cutting out since.
Probably happened as I was adding farkles to the front end like lights, heated grips and other items to over heat the ground cap wires.

At 74k odometer, my bike shut down. Wouldn't start. Waited 30 minutes, bike started, ran for 60 miles and quit running. Waited 20 minutes and bike got me home. Installed new fuel pump, new oem in lower tank filter, new in tank hoses. Bike has 102k now without incident.
 
Last week I started the bike and put on my gear. Dropped into the saddle, pulled the clutch, kicked the side stand into place and shifted into gear. Silence ensued, as well as several more attempts to restart the bike.
I now have a trouble code (19) for a faulty CKP sensor. The FI light also came on steady with no flashes a couple times, bad ECU :shrug2: :eek-2x:
The service manual task is checking for peak voltage. Do I have to check peak voltage with the sensor connected to the circuit or is the test still accurate if I disconnect and read voltage while cranking? I get 28milli volts approximately with the sensor disconnected which is under what the manual calls normal, .7v

That is annoying that the pulse sensor didn't fix your issue.

Just to confirm, all lights and everything act normal and it cranks but it will not start?
