older bikers

Just thinking back to the original post... It isn't that I don't like to ride with others, it is that there are few people who want to ride the way I want to ride. I'm going to ride anyway. If there's someone compatible to ride with, great. If not, great.

And I've been around the block enough times that I am comfortable in the decisions I make. A rider I was with last September got upset because he wanted to go faster and didn't like waiting for me to catch up. We were going through a very twisty section of road along the Snake River. He chose to ride the road. I chose to ride for the scenery. He made his choice, and I made mine. I hold nothing against him.

Unless you're going to sync up comms before taking off, you're still a bunch of solo riders going along a road at about the same pace and at the same time.

I was in exactly the same position on the same road. But I chose to keep up and that was a bad choice. Sometimes scenery outweighs twisty by a magnitude or three. For me that's more often than not. I'm envious of your choice.

Interesting thread. Riding has been a pleasure for me since I was 15, I'm 74. Also, a close second has been owning multiple bikes. Recently traded an '18 Goldwing and an '18 Venture Transcontinental for a new Indian Roadmaster. Of course the VFR and the T7 are waiting in the wings...
Solo riding has benefits, it's what I do most often. However, pairing up with the right gent can add to the satisfaction, because a coffee break and conservation is always rewarding.
C'mon spring!

Early in my riding career, I went on an organized group ride and was riding with more experienced riders, who easily took a turn that I didn't while trying to keep up. Went end-over-end, totaled my ST1100, and helmet, and spent the night in a hospital. Won't make that mistake again--I hope.
