... for those with a holey, drafty thus plagued farm-shed as bike storage:

P/N 4019-2317 TAPE, RODENT 19mm 20m

Special electrical tape to wrap wiring harness, infused with high-intensity capsaicin (active component in chili peppers) to deter rodents from chewing..
While wrapping the harness it is recommended to use the half-wrapping method.
Each time you wrap the tape around the harness overlap the previous layer by half the width of the tape.

Honda has recently started using a material called Durabio in some fairing parts and the windscreen. It contains corn. If the Honda is then stored for the winter and mice get in, half the bike might be missing in the spring.
Well, the RoHS (forced upon us by the EC) brought a couple of "new age issues" at the turn of the millennium...
Like fish-oil as plasticizers in wire insulation ... now rodents and martens just love to nibble there ...

My experience with the critters is they chew plastic to sharpen their teeth, usually to get at food in a plastic container. Little danger to fairings methinks. But that soy in much of our wiring has been their favourite, not hard plastics, lol. Fortunately, my shop is mouseproof, haven't seen one in there for over 10 years. I do have a mousetrap with peanut butter just in case though. I get a few every year with those in the house. If I only knew where they get in.....

I user peppermint oil - I keep a small rag under the seat that I soaked with this and I also occasionally spray the floor around my side stand and tires about once a month. Mice hate this and it doesn't smell bad unless you don't like peppermint. I also spray it along the base of my garage door and also any potential entryway that a mice might find. I used to have real mouse problems and since doing this I have not had any issues.

This also works well spraying it around your engine compartment on you vehicles.

I bought a bottle of peppermint concentrate a few years ago, and mix it in cooking oil so it doesn't evaporate. I then hang two of those in the engine compartment of my truck, with many holes in the lid to let the smell permeate the area. And, they still come back, so I don't know how well this really works. To be fair I don't regularly put more peppermint oil in, now that I'm thinking about it I should go do that.
