Consider broadening the timeline by just 25 years. In just our lifetime, mine anyway, remember the Japanese did nothing but produce cheap copies of western goods. 1950s Austrian DKW motorcycles heavily influenced Sochiro Honda. Honda won that battle in the marketplace, DKW, Puch not so much. But Japan's age of copying western products didn't last long.....Korea followed suit, now China.
