Anyone ever think about replacing your current higher mileage ST with a lower mileage ST?

I don't think I'm the only one but it has crossed my mind, especially since I've seen them for sale under $4k.

Mine is a 2005 with 112k miles and while it is running fine (knock on wood) the paint is showing its age and with the help of all here and IGOFAR, maintenance has been kept up.

Since you won't get much out of your '05, keep it and just pick up another one. Since 2012, I've had at least two ST1300s in my stable, if not three...or four. :rolleyes:

Look just to the left of the ST1300 on the lift, you'll see a third... ;)

Oh boy, you are NOT helping me with clearing space in my garage! lol. Am I wrong to assume the blue one will be the newest combination of the earlier ones to move forwards?

The Blue one is my 04 with 77K (I've put 46K on it since 2012). The one in the background is my 2012 that I put NOS 05 tupperware on and it has just over 38K, bought new in 2015. And the one on the lift is my AZ05 bike that I transplanted a 06 ST1300P engine into, and I'm still working on it, to get it road worthy.

Garage space? What's that? :rofl1:
 
Do you contemplate marrying your wife again?

I think we fall into two different camps. One marries a motorcycle at a young age and is quite satisfied with it for the next 20 or 30+ years. The other camp has a roving eye and likes variety or even younger and in some cases more....... attractive..... or more capable...... riding partners. Nothing wrong with either. Live and let live. After all your're not saving or spending anyone else's money but your own.
 
If it is running good why get rid of it. It is not worth all that much so your "worry factor" over theft, damage, etc is not much. 112k is just nicely broken in. If appearance is a big thing then try a good, tupperware off, deep clean and clay bar the paint. Getting a newer one won't get you much more than what you have (if any) and then you are dealing with possible unknown mechanical issues and possible insurance increases.
Caveat - I tend to buy and hold so any advice I offer is tinted with that lens.
 
The bugger for me about the 07 is the ecu.
With that in my point of view I’ll throw out these options.
Get a low mileage 2008+.
Expect to do to work on it.
Last summer I bought a good looking 2012 (supposedly to replace my 2006 but I kept both) that ran fine. It still needed brake and clutch master and slave cylinders cleaned out, coolant, the air cleaner was about the worst I’ve seen. And fasteners. And windshield adjuster overhauled, etc.
Take your time going over it while you ride the 2007.
Then if you have the room, keep both while mostly running the 2007 out. If not, one bike will work.
If you like silver better, swap.

My 2009 is 2003 silver.

I agree 100% with all you stated! I'd be "giving" away a perfectly running ST for a lower mileage one that may have been neglected.
