Anyone ever think about replacing your current higher mileage ST with a lower mileage ST?

Mike has the quintessential garage-mahal. I love to go over there just to soak in its grandeur and practicality. This from a guy who works on his bike out of an open carport. I have to sweep out the leaves everytime I work on the bike. :doh1:

If you’re inclined (and the paint isn’t great)- get it all repainted. That might run ~ $2K for a very nice job, and just keep running with it. I did that to the 94 I have and never regretted it.
Sounds like a cheaper alternative to a new motorcycle. What I love about my stone-pitted paint job is I don't worry about the slightest blemish anymore.

Oh damn! I used to use a leaf blower to quickly clear the leaves out
 
Sounds like a cheaper alternative to a new motorcycle. What I love about my stone-pitted paint job is I don't worry about the slightest blemish anymore.
As someone who does not obsess over my bikes, this is a big reason to keep an older bike. Not saying that is for everyone but......
I am in the "wash a couple times year if it doesn't rain" camp. I used to ride with a fellow that would detail his bike every night while on a ride. He missed a lot of beer but he did provide entertainment for the rest of us. Different strokes.

IIRC, you can no longer get the ECU/ECM for the 07 and before - and later ones do not work on earlier models.
But I am not a ST1300 feller so I am 100% sure about that. ;)
 
I'm not really someone to comment as I have bought and sold many bikes (and currently have 3 Hondas and a Yamaha, none are an ST...) but in the specific instance of the ST1300, I've owned both an 04 and 09 and couldn't tell them apart except the 04 seemed less knock-prone. If you like the way your aged machine runs (and I have boundless confidence in the longevity of the 1300 motor) but wanted some rejuvenation, I'd throw some money at the suspension (e.g. a new shock, fork springs, fork dampers parts, bushings, head bearings) as that is an area where improvements reward you on every ride.

While I advocate keeping at least one ST, your question strikes me as just silly.
Kind of like, "how many bikes do you really need?"
Why does there even have to be a "point"?
It's the chance to get another motorcycle. 🤣

There is a chance that there can be an ecu problem with no fix available with the 07 and earlier. It happens but the odds are low. I waffled on what to do

given a chance to do over considering like your bike, mine is up to date on pm, I would just keep riding.
These bike can go several hundred thousand miles and there will be some low mileage later model ST1300s available for a few more years.
I sure don’t mind having three though.
