Morning all. French roast is in the pot along with mini donuts.

-8 here, headed to -3. Schools are closed in advance of the storm. It's currently a yellow classification with 80-90kph winds, blowing and drifting snow, whiteouts, 30cm, travel advisories.. you know, all the good stuff. We'll wait and see what comes of it before we declare this fact or fiction.

Hope everyone has a great day and if you're lucky there's leftover birthday cake from @St-Gerard.

Same here, so if his supply runs low you've got backup caffeine available.

It's 30°F and still snowing in Rockville, which it apparently did off and on starting late yesterday afternoon and throughout the night, bringing us a few inches of what looks like fairly wet, clingy white stuff. It should taper off and come to an end in the next hour or two.

I can see the treetops moving so I'll assume there's at least a moderate breeze; the Windows weather app says it's 15 mph from the NW, so it feels like just 7°F. I'll bundle up when I go out to clear the crap after it has stopped coming down.

Our internet access demons continue to sporadically visit. Yesterday evening Mrs. Fun had the same partial loss of connectivity that I had a few days earlier, and this morning it was my turn once again. By now I know enough more about the first, second, and third lines of defense that it's just an annoyance and irritation, rather than a crippling outage.

Given the fairly abrupt onset, though, I am somewhat concerned that the root cause has yet to be identified. You can't really fix a problem until you know what's causing it at the basic level; all other "solutions" are band-aids on top of the real issue. My sainted Dad used to say "It doesn't do any good to solve the wrong problem.", and he was absolutely correct.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Only 21 degrees here, feels like 10, but Keith may have the lower wind chill. I’m waiting to hear the news about power outages on the east coast, to compare with what we had last month.

Gotta run. Dr. appointment in 2 hours and I need to study for the lab tests.

No power outage at my place, so no news. Just the intermittent network connectivity outage I mentioned above, which I don't (yet) think is weather-related.
 
So, first @Obo tells us @St-Gerard has burned his house down with the abundance of candles, and now he's sending us into a blizzard in the maritimes to scavenge frozen leftover birthday cake?
What kind of mad helllish nightmares did the Wing rider concoct in his sleep? Extra coffee for that man, quick!
While the overnight 28 degrees might have fostered snowy flakes or icy precip, our air stayed dry so we only have the north winds y'all sent us. Far removed from last week's balmy mid-70s, but I'll make do for the last few wintery attempts to freeze us. There won't be much of this left, is my prediction ... or at least my hope.
I never put my faith in Pennsylvania, or in Groundhog for that matter.
Yesterday after church I wandered around the Home and Garden Show for a couple of hours. Mostly the same businesses I see every year.
As I'm generally a cheap you- know- what, I bypassed all the $20 parking lots, but had to ride around the large city blocks in an ever-widening radius, until I found a free parking space... 4 blocks away.
Must have walked a half mile to the Civic Center, then walked up and down every aisle in that place.
Even as big as this big adventure bikes is, I saw several opportune places to leave the bike, out of the way of traffic and pedestrians, but there were police EVERYwhere and I didn't want a ticket.
So, you could say I got my steps in.
Who really counts their "steps", anyway? I always count miles.

Our weather, from the Weather Underground:
Snow, heavy at times. Gusty winds will lead to blizzard conditions. High 28F. Winds N at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of snow 100%. 5 to 8 inches of snow expected. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.
Another app says we've already achieved 8.6"

The plan for today is to just chill out, indoors. I'll go out to snow blow later this afternoon, once the snow abates.
We'll cook up a pork tenderloin and baby potatoes.

I just saw a magpie with a branch, building a nest. Spring IS coming.

Yesterday was all about clearing out my FILs room at the nursing home.
Today is nothing for me, while Mrs Stu is busy arranging the upcoming funeral etc.

Good morning, all, and thanks for the brew, Obo. Hunker down and stay safe, Maritimers! Jeez, Atlantic Canada sure has taken some hits this winter!

It's grey and cloudy here, but there's no precip in the forecast. Storm's going to miss us...this time. The sun might give us a wink or two today, and there's no extreme, biting cold to complain about. Oh, it's still winter all right, but as Stu pointed out, spring IS coming. We have a current temp of -6°C/21°F with a feels-like of -14°C/7°F now, and the high will be -1°C/30°F with a windchill of -5°C/23°F.

Right, gotta go do something productive. Everybody have a good one, stay out of the snow, stay safe, go safely.

You could be in Newfoundland... The past week's snowfall has resulted in a whopping 144.8 cm in Paradise, and more than 100 cm in St. John's.

Paradise is considering a name change as a result. :rofl1:

Indeed. You have enough issue with dogs in trailers.

While I've never cleaned off another car by mistake, I've had mine so caked with ice I couldn't open any of the doors without having to percussively remove the thick layer of ice with a hammer.
 
<rubs hands together, emits satisfied sigh>

That's the snow clearance seen to for this event, I think. We ended up with three or four inches of wet, sticky snow that's only just barely short of the melting point. Had to clear the discharge chute on the blower a couple times when it plugged solid with slush, but overall not terribly bad.

Now, I HOPE (unless someone in SoMD, who shall remain nameless but doubtless knows I'm talking to YOU :) says something foolish to jinx it), that's the las ... nope, not gonna say it. I likely won't put the shovels and blower back in the shed until just before I leave for Florida in a week and a half, just in case.

No issues with dogs and trailers here lol, but this was the 1st event after retiring that showed me exactly what happens when a 30yr old brain trys to tell a 67 yr old body what to do. Lessons learned! This was a week early, it was bumper to bumper once fully engaged.

I have enjoyed many a bike week, 2up, all of them, but now it seems more for another time, and now it is another time.

Boy that kid sure can ride a tank up high!

Instead of just putzing around today, I think I’ll mill around, that should be a nice change!

I worked as a flagger about 3 years ago, and had a good time. Downtown Daytona was "interesting".
This year, I'll be skiing in France while Daytona is happening.

Brenda and I are talking about attending the MotoAmerica race at Barber in May.

G'mornin' from snowy SoMD! We've got about 4 inches on the ground here judging from my dog's tracks in the backyard. With melting and wet compaction I'd hazard to say 5 total...I've neither the eqpt nor the patience to measure it the "official" way. It's 37F/3C as we close in on the noon hour. I'm already 2 cups deep in FR and expecting some more later. Thanks Obo and Keith!

At 0502, I was awakened by...my own bladder. I know, surprise! I did have a few extra sips last night (not the happy kind) so I wasn't surprised in hindsight. Ate dinner late bc I drove my wife to work. Roads were still pretty bad with the plows unable to pretreat and just starting to really get it handled. So, it was an early start to go pick her up as well. Roads were wet but fine by morning, much better work by the plows compared to last month's storm.

WFH day, then prob go do some volunteer shoveling. Not thinking that far ahead so I can keep my options open.

Exactly my son's current bike except blue. 1987 Radian. Fun bike but it sounds like it's going 70 mph when it's really only going 40.
