As of today the melt values are:
  • American Silver Eagle (1986–Present): $67.95
    • These modern bullion coins contain exactly 1 troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver.
  • Morgan and Peace Dollars (1878–1935): $52.55
    • These historic coins are made of 90% silver and 10% copper, containing approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver.
  • Silver Eisenhower Dollars (1971–1976): $21.48
    • Only special collector versions (often in blue envelopes or brown boxes) contain silver.
    • They are made of 40% silver and contain 0.3161 troy ounces of pure silver.

So, he was sold for somewhere between $429.60 and $1359.00 in today's dollars (assuming the silver rates in those coins were in these ranges.)

This might come in handy in your discussions tonight.
