st1100 timing belt cross reference

Hi everybody, Happy New Year!

Finally getting round to the finish of a long winded, overun, heavy-service on my pan, (tyres, alternator, new swing arm, repair to rear brakes regulator thingy and a bit of tidying rust spots).... so now I am off to treat her to a new timing belt.

Can anyone who knows about these things please tell me if the following is suitable. Pros and cons, all opinion much appreciated. Thanks in advance, kind regards.

Try to cross-reference those with the list at the top of this thread. If either match you should be fine. As for longevity, there is the debate of nylon versus Kevlar reinforcement, but you might be hard-pressed to find it in the part description.

Frankly, I wouldnt quibble over a buck or two. Get one from a reputable brand that meets your timetable. Even better if you can add the tensioner/idler pulleys. GL!

I don't have a way to measure the exact tooth pitch, or overall length of the stock belt precisely, but that Bosch part seems really, really close to what I am able to measure.

When I measure 15 teeth with a digital caliper I get about 9.5mm tooth pitch, vs. the Bosch 9.525mm specified pitch. That difference is less than 0.4mm over 143mm, so I'm going to say that's essentially the same within my ability to measure it accurately.

When I count the teeth I get 147, which matches.

when I measured the width I got 23.8mm, vs. 24mm nominal for the Bosch.

And, the tooth profile is the same (since Larry brought that up in the next post)

Based on that I'd say its worth a try.

Thanks buddy for this very precise reply. It's all a bit heavy on the head sometimes, as I don't remember anything having to be so technically accurate ....I mean with belts per se. They're obviously gonna stretch, get hot, shrink, stretch, get cold, repeat....so yeah, thanks.. the Bosch is a direct cross reference from above so, .I'm just going for it. As for longetivity, I think I'll be growing daises before my bike snaps a belt! Cheers.

Thanks for this. Whilst I believe Honda may have a preferred choice profile, I think in the real world, most of us just find what works! I'm no expert at all but when I think of the pressure/tension involved in keeping this belt in place, I just can't imagine how any of those profiles wouldn't be suitable. Yeah, of course I can be wrong, which is why I love his place, we've come to learn! Thanks again.

The cam pulley has "U" shaped grooves in it, so I'd be hesitant to run a belt with a square profile. Probably a moot point because I think that Bosch belt you found is a direct hit anyway.
