Strange noise from the engine suddenly

Anybody that can give me info about removing the engine from the frame?

I have not done this before. Their is no shop that have time here for the first weeks.
This is a little bit scary.
I can't. You are well past anything I have done on mine... Sorry - but glad you seem to have located the noise though.

@SupraSabre - I think I saw a picture recently on the best practice for pulling an engine (I think it included a tractor ;)). Would you have any tips to help PanRider? Is it easier to remove the entire engine to get this bearing out of the housing?

I have used two ways to remove the engines from the frame.

The first left the heads on, but required to lift the frame off the engine. I stripped the bike down, since I wasn't using this frame. You probably don't need to strip it down that far.

The other method, I pulled the heads off and dropped the engine from the frame. And I slid it out to the left. Then strong armed it to the ground.

You're probably looking at having to remove the rear cover, to get to that area.

Good luck.

I have decided to make this a winter project. This is to stressfull a week before my vacation.
On the internet i found another ST1300 two years jonger (2008) and with only 30.000 km on the clock. Same color. It is almost new.
Spoke to the seller an hour ago, i go pick this beauty up tomorrow.
The most importand things i will transfer from my own bike.
This is better.

Excellent! Great find!

Pulling these engines is not for the faint at heart. When I pulled these two out, was because I figured if I couldn't get the good engine (ex cop 06) into the 05, (bad engine) I had nothing to loose, since I have two good running ST1300s anyway!

I'm glad you found another ST1300, at least you'll be able to ride this summer! :hat3:

If you're going to be taking the rear cover off over the winter, you might want to consider a Factory Pro shift kit while you're in there. I have one of them in mine and it makes a dramatic improvement in shift feel and engagement. Like they say- false neutrals and missed shifts are a thing of the past with the kit. Well worth the $125 they charge for it.
