Coworker shared this joke couple years ago and each time there was more embellishment. I was the last one to laugh too

)Ask for the manager. Tell him / her 'if you cannot afford to pay your staff, you cannot afford to operate a business. Then leave!OK, this discussion is something I don't get... as technically tipping is supposed to be voluntary...
So operators playing the guilt trip on patrons for not paying their employees enough salary?
And if the waiter serves five tables he then makes like $ 100,-/hour tax free?
Yes, we do tip over here; porters, taxi drivers, waiters and waitresses, hairdressers (tipping craftsmen* came somehow out of fashion for unknown reasons...)
We give like 5~15%, and its not forced upon patrons & clients... waiters earn € 16,- ~ 20,-/hour over here...
a sign/message like above would be received as rude and offending... I for one would leave without ordering and never go there again, period...
*I tip an automotive mech like € 5,- for a "small" job like annual inspection, or swapping winter<>summer tires... after an actual service I'll give at least € 10,-...
my thought exactly, but if the "service fee" is only a couple of bucks I'm not going to stop going there altogether if I otherwise like the place.Ask for the manager. Tell him / her 'if you cannot afford to pay your staff, you cannot afford to operate a business. Then leave!
I will not pay a mandatory "service fee" even if it is a place I have gone to for years! If the business cannot afford their expenses, they should raise their rates, and I will most likely pay the increased rate. I will not let them try to put their hand in my pocket because of their greed or lack of business acumen. If someone owns or operates a business they should not try to tell their customers to cover their business expenses. After final bargaining for a new car purchase, I tell the dealership "Now deduct the dealership fee or I WILL WALK AWAY. I have gotten out of the door but never was able to leave the lot before it was deducted.my thought exactly, but if the "service fee" is only a couple of bucks I'm not going to stop going there altogether if I otherwise like the place.
And it always makes me wonder if the service fee is only a couple bucks, wouldn't it be less offensive to just raise the menu prices slightly? Seems like really stupid management, but there's a lot of stupid going around these days.
