11°/17°C, overcast, likely rain for most of the day... 🌧️

so here we are, a Friday wedged between a holiday and a Saturday...
Should have taken that day off, but vacation days are far to valuable for me... 🧐

Spent yesterday in the shed, ST wrenching... 😎
learned that, compared to EC versions, the US/CN spec cams are missing at least 1.2mm height on the tip of the lobes...
... considering lift & timing this is a lot!! :oops:
So what are the engines rated over there? 72HP? :unsure:

refueled the trusty Toyota... back to premium from a brand station...
with the alleged "premium" from a discounter the 1.8ltr 7AFE engine shivered in idle like a 3 year old being in the pool too long...
also the range on a full tank dropped by ~120km/75miles... 😒
and last but not least: with the brand premium that subtle "drrrrrrrrrt" during acceleration is GONE... just a smooth "vrrooooooom"... 😎

OK, now lets see what torments that 1/2 workday has to offer 😎

15˚c/59f, 10mph breeze, showers, it’s from Ray, I know!! He actually told me so.

Been out early, bought shrimp, wine, propane.
Anything can happen today, but first cleaning house…

Yesternights birthday party was as dull as expected, but the food was good.
I’m that kind of person.
Wish I was at @Nashcat s place….

It's 59°F and clear in Rockville at the moment. The sky is beginning to brighten, ahead of actual sunrise which is set for 0543. The birds are already chirping, though. We may top out at or above 90 today.

Goof is on the agenda, as will be a nap. In fact I may have two naps. We'll see.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

The opposite of coffee is sniffee.

10C and cloudy for the ride in. 19C and partly sunny for the ride home they are predicting.

Not much else on the books. Wish I was going to @Nashcat's too. Closer for me than Stu, but still 24hrs & 2600km/1600 miles, one way.

One day and a wakeup, and if I get to bed on time, I plan to leave tomorrow at about this time for the Carnivore Carnival.
Y'all get lucky today, because when the first cup is done, I'll leave do meet my breakfast buddies.
By the time I arrive, I'll have decided whether it's the hubcap-sized pancake, or eggs and grits. Either way, the smoked sausage will be included.
With about 4 more cups of coffee.

It's 56 and sunny, rising to 87 with a mix of sun and clouds.

Yesterday was Interesting...
Open track day went well, aside from a couple of drivers who didn't know what certain flags meant. They sorted that out and we kept going, until a little after 3:00.
By then, Brenda had left to our son's place, so I came home to just me and the cats.
I plan on riding the Wing to inspection and on to Joe's place in Dedham, so I figured I'd wash and wax the bike.

I washed the bike, but the water pressure was not as high as I expected. hmm. I went into the cellar to see if I'd only partially opened the ball valve and was met with a cellar that was filling with water from a leak and spraying water! :oops:
It looks like the non-freezing hose bib froze.:(
I went from washing the bike to vacuuming the water with my shop vac. Hauling water and shop vac contents up the stairs kind of blew away the concern about heavy lifting.
I eventually got the water sucked up, and cleaned up the vac contents that I had to dump on the lawn. the inside of the shop vac looks very clean and I've left two fans on overnight, to dry out the floor.
Oh, and I also took the VFR out of the trailer and parked it in the driveway...

Today, I'll take the Wing to the dealer for it's annual inspection, and then on to Dedham to help Brenda watch the grands.

Totally real, not AI picture of the peace and serenity of the back yard, just before it gets taken over by a horde of roving nomads, riding the mechanical beasts, devouring everything in sight, before passing out and sleeping on the lawn.

That’s why I do this. I love you guys…..and girl.

Men may toil from sun to sun, while women’s work is never done. Fark, I’m having to do both this week.

G'mornin' from the office! It was a nice ride in today, minus the traffic. It's a Friday, ppl, for chissakes! Gooooo! Thanks for the coffee, Martin. I think you saved several lives from my wrath. Oh, and I hit a mileage milestone this morning, had to snap a pic:

It's nice to have a new tire on, Bridgestone Battlax BT020. Amazon special from last Feb (2025), $70. Though it did cost $104 to mount, still a deal. While I was in there I cleaned up the rear caliper pistons and replaced the pads (EBC Sintered) as they weren't wearing evenly. Didn't do a full caliper rebuild, just squeezed them out enough to shine up the surfaces. Only replaced 2 of 3 o-rings, the one on the spider flange looked fine.

I also had a new rear brake disc on hand and ready. It was not OEM. And once I had it all back together I saw why. It would scrape against the caliper bracket bc it wasn't thinner in the middle like the OEM is. So, I had to disassemble it all and reuse the old disc. I don't have calipers to measure it, but its looking worn enough to warrant replacement. The hunt will resume... Do not buy these for your 1100, from any seller:

Only other real issue I had was my tube of M-77 was old, so it was real hard to get out of the tube. I had to press on it with my foot to get it out! So, I envision another disassembly to replace the disc and do a recoat with fresh moly paste.

That was enough adventure for yesterday. Here's hoping today is uneventful. Sorry I won't be making the trip to you @Nashcat. Sounds like a fun time but that's further than I could go. Take care y'all!

No, no... this shall not go unnoticed. So let's talk about the cams. How do you know this? Have you measured? Do you know if the lobe separation and duration is different as well? I'm very curious...
 
Morning all! Overcast here with bits of blue sky doing their best to peek through. Rain is forecast to start in about an hour or so and continue all day. 12C now, 14C the high later. Should make for a fun ride home.

The ride home yesterday was brilliant. I had to go to a doctor's appointment in Langford and rather take the highways back, I snuck through the "highlands" and took backroads all the way home. Nothing like tight twisty back roads with minimal traffic. I don't think I went faster than 60 kph but it was nice to just sit back, enjoy the sun peeking through the forest and become one with the bike. Pure zen without the maintenance......that'll come later no doubt.

I'll have to pass on the Nashcat cookout as well unfortunately. Sounds like an awesome time but 40 hours and 4100 kms (according to Google) is a wee bit tight timewise. Hope it's a great time for everyone. I will be perusing and obsessing over which mattress to purchase. They sure do like to keep it discombobulating with their multiple different terms for the same darn thing. Sales puff I believe it was called in a seminal contracts case from England; Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Co [1893] 1 QB 256 for those of you so inclined or in need of a good soporific.

I looked on eBay and it appears that there's a bunch from Belgium. Shipping's a bit high but at least you good folk up there in Canada don't have to deal with these stupid tariffs us dumbass yanks have to deal with. :(

Long time suspicion over the smaller idle and main jets in US/CN models... and that their cams have different P/N's... ;)

Not that it would have been obvious during my (close!) visual inspection... 🧐
With "taller" lobes you've already earlier opening, larger lift, later closing...

You'd only need the cams... and a set of shims though as clearance need to be checked of course...
