Help Preserve the OEM Honda ST1300 / Pan European Front Speaker Enclosures​

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping the ST/Pan European community might be able to help with a project I've been working on for the last several weeks.

I'm attempting to recreate the discontinued OEM Honda front speaker enclosures (Accessory Kit 08A54-MCS-800) as accurate 3D-printable models.

This is strictly a preservation project.

I have no intention of selling these or making money from them. My goal is simply to recreate a discontinued Honda accessory so other ST1300/Pan European owners can keep these bikes original if they choose. Once the model is complete, I intend to upload the file free of charge to the ST community.

Why I'm asking for help​

As many of you know, these speaker kits have been discontinued for years and are extremely difficult to find.

The only potentially available options are excessively expensive to ship, or are not available to ship to met at all in the US.

Unfortunately I own a US-spec ST1300, where Honda never really marketed this accessory, so I don't have an original enclosure to measure.

Over the past few weeks I've searched just about every source I could think of:
  • Honda accessory parts catalogs
  • Bike-Parts Honda
  • CMSNL
  • Partzilla
  • Honda EPC diagrams
  • Google Images
  • eBay listings
  • European classified ads
  • Pan European accessory brochures
  • GL1800 speaker information (to compare the OEM speaker)
  • Old forum posts and archived websites
I've been able to identify the accessory part numbers:
  • Front Speaker Kit: 08A54-MCS-800
  • Right enclosure: 08A54-MCS-80001
  • Left enclosure: 08A54-MCS-80002
  • Speaker: 08A10-MBL-80001
Unfortunately none of those sources include engineering drawings or useful dimensions.

Current progress​

Using photographs, perspective correction, and CAD reconstruction, I've already recreated much of the front mounting geometry.

The remaining challenge is confirming dimensions so the model is as accurate as possible.

I'm looking for anyone who has...​

  • An original speaker enclosure
  • An original speaker kit
  • A bike with the speakers removed
  • Spare housings sitting on a shelf
Even a damaged enclosure would be extremely helpful.

Photos that would really help​

If taking measurements isn't convenient, good photographs are still incredibly valuable.

The most useful photos would be:
Front - Photo taken perfectly straight-on.
Rear - Straight-on showing mounting features.
Left side - Camera centered on the enclosure.
Right side - Camera centered on the enclosure.
Top
Bottom
45° corner views - These help reconstruct the curved surfaces.

If possible, place the enclosure on graph paper or next to a ruler.

I have attached photo samples located online, including my initial attempt to reverse engineer the enclosure dimensions.

Measurements that would help​

Even a few of these would be enough to greatly improve the model.

Front face​

  • Overall width
  • Overall height
  • Thickness of front flange
  • Diameter of speaker opening
  • Distance between mounting holes
  • Mounting hole diameter

Enclosure​

  • Overall depth
  • Wall thickness (if visible)
  • Internal depth
  • Speaker mounting surface depth

Mounting tabs​

  • Hole diameter
  • Hole spacing
  • Thickness
  • Offset from enclosure

Speaker (if removed)​

If anyone happens to have the original speaker removed, measurements of the following would also help:
  • Overall frame width
  • Mounting hole spacing
  • Basket diameter
  • Overall depth
  • Magnet diameter

Even simple tools are enough​

You don't need anything fancy.

A ruler, tape measure, or inexpensive digital calipers are more than adequate.

If you're unsure what to measure, simply post photos and I can mark them up with exactly what dimensions would be helpful.

Why I'm doing this​

The ST1300 and Pan European have become modern classics, and unfortunately many of Honda's accessories have disappeared.

I'd like to preserve one small piece of that history so owners still have the option to recreate these speaker enclosures rather than having the design disappear forever.

Once the model is complete and verified, I'll upload the file for free to the ST community.

I'm even willing to help compensate you for your time.

If anyone is willing to help with measurements or photos, I'd be incredibly grateful.

I appreciate the support and positivity. I have been around the forum for over a year as I experience life on the back of a ST-1300, but never felt as compelled as I do now to post.

To make contributing easier, I've created a one-page documentation sheet. If you have one of these enclosures, any measurements or clear photos you can provide—no matter how few—will help improve the accuracy of this recreation. You don't need to complete every field; even partial information is valuable. The attached PDF is fillable if you'd prefer to complete it digitally rather than print and scan it back in.

Project Note: For transparency, I've been using AI as a productivity tool during this project (much like using CAD instead of a drafting table). It helps organize research, prepare documentation, and identify areas that need verification. The actual reverse engineering, measurements, and final CAD model are all being accomplished and validated by hand.

I have a spare set lying around, so easy to measure the dismounted portion...
I have measured up the speakerboxes and speaker according to the instructions and left some comments.
I will send a PM with a download link of all the pics I took. Left stuff on my desk, so PM me if you need more measurements or pics..

If I may suggest:
Although it goes against your wish to be historically accurate, as a fellow 3D printer hobbyist, I might suggest making slight alterations in order to make it easier or stronger when 3D printed, such as shallower angles to eliminate supports. I also tend to make minor improvements where parts are known to fail or would greatly improve its function.

What you could do is offer the historical set and a printable set. I cannot help with the former as I don't own a 1300, but I can certainly review the base model and make suggestions for improvement or ease of printing.

That is some incredible insight. It’s definitely a smart design choice to make some necessary modifications to the design for strength and printability over the original injection molded part.

I’m going to try with some various materials, as well as printing in resin so those factors aren’t considered in the same ways. Having a historical set and then a rock solid set isn’t a bad idea. Doing some destructing testing could be fun. I’ll keep everyone here posted as I move along in the project.
 
Special thanks to community member Superdirk for providing the first complete physical documentation package, including measurements, internal photographs, speaker dimensions, and hardware information.

This is what these projects are really about. Again, I am extremely appreciative of the support for this and I hope this leads to more preservation of this platform for a long time.

Okay, I have been biting my lip, because I have received payment for, but not yet shipped, a pair of speaker enclosures, and wanted to wait to hear back from the buyer before speaking up.

I have a pristine pair of speaker enclosures, boxed and addressed, but I have received permission to divert them to alxjmrk with certain conditions, which are easier to copy and paste here; to wit:

"Larry: I have no problem letting this guy borrow the speaker enclosures for measuring for his project but I do have some conditions. 1. He pays the shipping from you and then to me; 2. The units will not be physically damaged; and 3. I get not only the originals but one additional set at no charge to me for either the set or shipping."

I have an additional concern, that would be alleviated with a deposit of some sort, not because I have any personal mistrust, but because I am personally responsible to the purchaser, and accidents can occur in the best of circumstances.

So, alxjmrk, unless you're getting the pair Superdirk is offering, get in touch with me and we can talk. I'll send you my cell number.
 
Larry that is so kind of you to take the risk in a private transaction to help with my community goal here. Go ahead and get your customer taken care of, I don't want to cause any stress in your personal transaction (I'm also concerned about how significant the request from the purchaser is). I am working out a solution with Superdirk , so I think we can get to where we want to be without complicated middle-man transactions that carry much more risk.

Superdirk Thank you so much, again! I have received the speaker enclosures today and will be able to continue specific measurements and configuration for this project. I am very appreciative of your support on this.
