G'Day...

21°/37°C... soggy at 70% RH... haze, not a cloud in sight, the air is barely moving... so its gonna be hot, darn hot... 🥵

after feeding a cat that was literally starving for days (not ;)) desperately needed Nespresso at ze GF's... ☕

across town in the trusty Toyota due to logistical reasons...
as most of the clowns are on vacation, astonishing smooth sailing... 🤔

office Nescafé... no less urgently needed... ☕

spent Sunday afternoon roasting in a friend's farm house attic 🥵, recovering ST parts... masses of them... 😎
Fairings, screens, pannier lids, mirror covers, two (ABS-I) front wheels, etc, etc...
all covered with a thick, sticky layer of straw-dust (you know that type of barn-dust)...
will have to rinse them down before any further transport... 💦🚿
Some will go to the bike shed (already low on space), others into ze GF's basement, cataloging, ID-ing color codes, labelling, etc...
Hence some busy evenings this week...

hoping for an easy start into the week... 😎
 
Good morning everyone

Thanks for the start, Martin.

It's a sticky, muggy, humid 74°F in Rockville- the sort of humidity that has me looking for a drinking straw in order to be able to breather. That's at least partly down to the rain that fell yesterday- about 2/3" worth in intermittent showers and deluges all afternoon and evening- as well as to whatever moisture this blob of air carried with it from wherever it came. Partly sunny with a high of 86 which will feel like 97 is the call for the day.

The house cleaners are due today so I've got to get things tidied up a bit before they arrive, after a week of living bachelor-style. Beyond that, I've no plan and little idea.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

It's 74 and cloudy, although it appears that we've had some overnight rain.
We'll get even more rain throughout the day, while the temperature only rises another degree to 75.

Yesterday, I hung out in turn 3 during the last day of the 24hrs of Lemons race. I saw a little action, there, as did other turns.

Today, I'll head back to the track again, to flag at the Club day. It'll be a change, going from 80 cars to 5...

Thanks Martin. I swear weekend get shorter by about a half hour, every iteration.
I can tell the cumulative effects, and I'm sure it's not my imagination.
The USA should probably spend $3 or 4 billion to hire some expert astrophysicists to study whether the universe is accelerating.
If we can send millions to teach line dancing in Guyana, this shouldn't be a problem.
We were supposed to have a birthday dinner at my brother-in-law's house last night, with nieces and nephew and their spouses and those kids' three babies, but they had to take his wife's mother to the ER.
FOURTEEN! hours later, she got a hospital room and they discovered a UTI has led to sepsis.
Dinner rescheduled for this Friday.
So apparently Roz shares a birthday with VP J.D. Vance.

Found the radiator leak upon attempting to fill it with coolant. It's coming out at the top seam, where it meets the frame at the sides holding the fins.
That sounds confusing.
The leak is at the top weld.
Considered having it pressure tested, then realized that's pointless. I saw where the coolant was leaving the radiator, and I know I don't want to try a Stop-Leak kind of repair.
The Honda radiator is discontinued on Honda parts sites, but RockAuto has a replacement made by Denso, who made them for Honda.
When I saw the yellow-green juice coming off the bottom of the rad, I kicked a clean tub underneath it, so I can reuse a lot of it.
Didn't need to even start the engine, the leak is obvious enough.
The old rad hoses looked good, no visible cuts, cracks, or splits, so I probably didn't even need to replace them.
As an aside, Honda uses those same trim clips on the Element that we have on the STs. You know, that metal clip that has a nut welded to the back of it, used to hold body parts together.
Problem is, they're used on soft plastic like an air dam underneath the radiator, and in fender wells, so when the nut gets rusty, the whole clip rotates with the bolt, literally tearing that soft plastic.
No one but a mechanic working under the car will ever see it, but it's an annoyance.
I've had to fight with those cheaply-stamped clips when they twist and deformed, in other applications.
So... FAIL at fixing the radiator and getting the car back in the road.
But... WIN at finding the source of my coolant leak.
Stay tuned - or not - for the next rookie effort at car repair.

@Sadlsor sorry to hear about the radiator failure. My Dad used to tell me "It doesn't do any good to fix the wrong problem.", generally after he had done just that. So, you're in good company.

At least the price of a replacement doesn't look like a additional mortgage would be required.
 
About 50 for the hoses with shipping, 123 for the rad with shipping.
Still ahead of taking it to a shop... and think of all the tire wear I've saved by not driving for 7 -8 months. 🤣

The gap is narrowing, I suppose.
But wait: all the gas I put in the bike instead, getting twice the mileage.
But hey, I work cheap.
And if I don't like my work, I'll give me all my money back.
And besides the money, win or lose, I get to play with my tools (get your filthy minds out of the gutter!), and learn more about my car.
I do like that part.

BTDT, exactly the reason I'd applied a slight smear of my Loctite LB 8065 copper anti seize stick on e.v.e.r.y. single fairing screw and bolt of my ST's... 🤔
 
Morning Martin & All from sunny, Southern Utah!

Currently it is 70F, heading for 98F. No breeze now, but later, we are expecting the winds blast furnace from the WSW @ 15 to 20mph. Another good day to stay in doors.

@Sadlsor , My thoughts on doing my own work; I can probably screw it up two or three times, and still come ahead of a shop! And by the time I'm done, it's probably better than the shop would do.

Yesterday, besides church, it was a nice restful day. Today, I'll go over the WeSTOC 30 shirt orders and then verify with Adam to make sure out numbers match. I'm waiting for an email from the guy that I will give the shirt order to, so I can go down to ST George (where it will be above 110F) to make sure all the "I"s are crossed and the "T"s doted.

Setting up the portable air, in the garage got it down enough. So, I'll probably be doing that, until the heat goes away.

Once Chris is awake, we'll get some breakfast. Pepsi(s) will be had later.

Good morning, all, and thanks for the coffee, Martin. Good luck with the sorting and cataloguing.

I had a lovely lunch with friends yesterday at the bistro attached to my community's golf club. It's a really lovely spot. The bistro has a huge, open but roofed patio, so we started out there. As predicted, the rain started to fall and the die-hard golfers who had rushed to play a round before the sky opened up began to scurry in. We had been smart and chose a table right in the middle away from the edges of the patio, so we were fine for a bit. Then, the rain got heavier...and heavier. Then, the wind picked up. Then, we moved inside to finish our bottle of wine!
It's raining again (or still) today - coming down pretty hard right now. Sure hope our garage doesn't get flooded again. Not quite as hot today, but still very muggy. Only 21°C/70°F with a feels-like of 25°C/77°F now, high of 24°C/75°F with a feels-like of 32°C/90°F.

Right. Time to get down to my procastinatory procrastinations. Everybody have a good one, stay safe (and dry) and go safely.

Thanks for the start and I see a sight for sore eyes on the counter, a pot of coffee I didn't make
pulled in around 12:30 to dry outdoor deck plants, three days without water so it must have been hot here on the wet coast in spite of some rain
The smoke in Kamloops last night had a real bad feeling to go along with it and you could taste it a bit heading up the coquihala
clear skies here though
I used a Rock Auto probably Denso radiator when I replaced the heater core in my Wrangler
Many people report various aftermarket radiators not lasting long but it's clear on the JK they shouldn't be using it to hang / support the condenser. I built separate condenser support hardware and so far so good
If Im going to get out for a ride nows the time weather here might be the hottest week in the early 30 s
I know low 90s is a cool breeze for many but Im on call for AC and too old
might have to add that to my - no more elevated platform - rule see if they still keep me around... or don't 😂
