When making an attempt to open my side cases has been complicated and usually have to open and shut the latch four or five times to get the case open. I spent some time after it was open watching the mechanism lock and unlock and decided it was gunky and in need of cleaning and lubrication. Here's a video.

Never done that on my 1100s.
Me neither... ;) (except the occasional preventive maintenance to the lock-barrels...)

But went trough that on the, maybe even more complex "zentral lock bowden cable, pannier release/lock kinematic" of the GF's NT700VA...

PO had screwed that up with the usual, senseless "WD-40 assault"... :cautious:
took a while to get all the accumulated grime off, degrease and free everything to finally re-lube all with silicone oil only which will not attract any road dust in the future...
The result is priceless though; smooth, effortless operation of lock and release levers as well as easy, reliable engaging of the strikers when closing the lids... made ze GF a happy rider again...
