slave cylinder rebuild

my bike was Leaking clutch fluid, so I went to rebuild the slave cylinder

I can’t seem to get this old rubber out of the engine part (I don’t know all the terms) And now I’m stuck here with my bike halfway taken apart and was just wondering if anybody had any tips

The rubber was in such bad shape that it just came apart when I tried to pull it out

That is an oil seal. I wen to RonAyers.com and looked at fiches for a 99 ST1100 A: I'd expect all the variations to use the same clutch cover.




Oil seals are synthetic rubber in a metal frame and are usually tapped into the hole. I've never had an 1100, no doubt guys like @Uncle Phil will chime in and tell you how to get that out.

I was able to get the middle piece out with a pick But the outside just goes too deep

I got it out!

Once I understood that the metal ring in the inside was part of the rubber seal, I just ripped it out with some needle nose

Your typical oil seal puller looks like this. But a lot of us have used a drywall screw and pliers to yank the metal ring. Whatever works that doesn't damage the casting.
