What are the most comfortable openface and half style helmets?
This depends on the shape of your head to a large degree. A helmet of the highest quality might be very uncomfortable on the wrong shape head.
I would encourage you to consider full face helmets. The cheapest full face is far superior to the most expensive half helmet.
Where is this written?
I believe tha the Hurt Report simply indicates that ANY helmet is preferred....
Just curios...it makes sense to me, but I think that to cite as fact is a stretch...
Thanks

Besides, full face helmets make you look like Darth Vader; and that's just cool.![]()
I don't think comfort will be an issue after you slide down the road on your face!

You really need to try on different brands. They fit each head shape differently. For me, the most comfortable half helmet is a HJC AC-2.
I just bought the HJC AC-5 for $62.00 + tax. Very comfortable and its Snell and DOT inspected. I plan on using it for my short commute to work and little errands. I'll use my Shoei RF1000 for the longer rides.
But, flip up helmets and full face helmets almost always give me a headache, or put pressure on my cheek bones that give me a TMJ problem. I've had to stop and try to push against the foam with my hands to free it up some. It did not work.
