Helmets Mutitec or RF1000

I presently have an RF1000. It's time for a new helmet, should I stick with the RF1000 and get a new one or should I order the Multitec ?

Any input from you guys who have used both ? I love Shoei period ,just not sure now.

By the way I also just ordered a Scala Q2 Multiset if that makes any difference in choice of a helmet.

After seeing poor Putt's face, I will not even think about buying a flip face helmet ever again.

It was obvious that the front of his modular helmet was open at some point during the crash. I do not know why. I do suspect that with a proper full face helmet, he would not have had serious road rash on his face. Alas, his head injuries were most likely minor compared to his internal injuries.
 
I don't wear 100% ATGATT, but will never risk my face (ugly enough as it is) with a flip-up helmet. Buy another RF1000.

If you really want a treat get yourself an X-11. If you check some of the online discount helmet dealers you might find an X-11 for a good price. I have both an X-11 and an RF1000 and find the X-11 more comfortable. Plus all of the interior pads are removable and come in different sizes.

I have always worn shoei and I have a Z-II right now. I want to get the multitech but it just doesnt feel nicely balanced and does hurt my forehead...
so maybe RF1000 next time.

Still, this does it for me. I have an RF-1000 and would sure like the convenience of a flip up for wearing glasses and talking to folks. I have always feared their mechanisms (even the Shoei's metal ones - they are still mounted in the composite of the helmet) and the statement above does nothing but cement that feeling.

I have many helmets, I like my RF1000 the best. I really like my HJC AC12 Carbin Fiber, the only problem with it is the first detent puts the face shield to far open. I also have a new Shoei TZ1, it is just alittle to tight. All of my helmets are large, but the size seems to vary alittle. I bought a flip Helmet from JC Witney which I like, but it is way to big. The bottom line for me is the RF1000. I have heard of many accidents that the flip ups aren't as safe as they should be.
 
I've got the Multitec, which as a glasses wearer is great and also saves removing it for fuel stops in the UK, BUT I seem to be suffering with serious wind noise. Tried all the obvious cures and now have to wear ear plugs all the time having had an early tinitus warning. I'm considering trying a different manufacturer even though the helmet is only 18 months old.

Some people don't seem to have a problem with the Multitec which must be because every head is different and the linings "seal" better on others.

The RF1000 is a great helmet and the Cardo Scala units fit perfectly in them without modifying anything in the helmet.
FWIW...I dont think any of the flip helmets meet the Snell safety standards.
 
I have a Shoei Multi-Tec and I do like the fact that you can raise the front to talk. However, if you wear glasses, you will bend your frames if you try to put them on or take them off when the helmet is open. I have to put on or take off my glasses with the helmet in place. That is a disappointment. This was not a problem for my older HCJ flipface.

For that reason, I am considering an RF1000 as I have an older RF800 that I liked a lot. Good luck with the decision.

One other point, I have a J&M headset installed on the Multi-Tec and it is tight on the ears with that fitment. Cordially, Dave Wilson
 
I have both, but wear the RF more, by about 10 trips to 1. It's not that I don't like the Multi, I do. I just find that I reach for the RF more.
 
I have a Multi-Tec helmet with a J&M headset installed. The helmet is somewhat noisier than the RF1000 that I just purchased. If you wear glasses, the Multi-Tec may damage your glasses when taking the helmet on or off. (Of course, the flip-face is open). I found that I need to put on or take my glasses off with the Multi-Tec in place.

I found that the RF1000 as a slot to allow glasses to be put on more easily.

I do like the ability to talk more easily with others with the Multi-Tec.

One nice feature, they both use the same face shield. So I only have to carry one spare shield for either. Good luck. Cordially, Dave Wilson
 
I've not used a the Multi-Tech modular helmet, but my buddy says his Multi-Tech does have more wind noise than his RF1000.

I love my RF1000.

Has anyone heard if Shoei's new XR1100 is coming soon—or is that a European model only?

That might be worth waiting a couple more months for.
Or, it might mean extra big savings on RF1000s in stock (since that's what it's supposed to be replacing).
 
I really like my Multitec especially when its hot out and you are stopped in traffic, when talking to someone or when gassing up.

It is not very quiet (I've never worn a helmet that I would call very quiet though) but I wear Hearos earplugs when on long trips.

I have the Shoe X-11 and I love it. J&M headset installed. I still wear earplugs almost all the time however. You can find many on sale for $399. Fit is similar to RF1000 but the liner is removable and washable.
 
From what I have read the SNell standards are not very good. In fact the harder t he helmet shell the worse for your noggin. It seems that a polycarbonate shell is better. I have to dig up the article I read. It was very good reading all about the different testing. Snell testing is not very realistic from what this article said. I will see if I can find it when I get home. After reading the article I will stick with helmets that are DOT and ECE rated, I do npt want a snell rated helmet.
